A school district will be in
formed by March 15 of any
changes made in the budget, and
the district will then be allowed
a hearing. But the rural board
determines the final amount of
the budget which shall be In
cluded in the equalized tax levy.
Districts will be notified by April
1 of the final amount of their
budget.
Elections
It it is necessary to exceed the
six per cent limitation on the
county-wide levy, the rural board
will call an election on the "third
Monday in April," according to
the law.
After all preliminary budgeting
is completed, districts may vote
supplementary budgets which will
not be examined by the rural
board.
County school superintendent :
Mrs. Lucille Kllnge said the Lane 1
rural board has set up the follow-1
ing policies on budgeting:
Existing salary schedules will
be allowed, plus "increased living ,
costs, unless salary Is out -of line!
with people in comparable posi
tions." The rural board will allow:
Minor alterations, new furn
iture and equipment for addi
tional pupils "as required by
standards."
Betterment assessments and a
library to "meet standards."
Text books "to comply with
the law."
Approximately 5 per eent of
the budcet for an emergency
fund.

now in existence will be main
tained." Lane County representatives
from the five districts are:

ton; xone II, Peter M. Petersen,
2490 Elmira Road, Eugene; zone
III, Carl R. Baker, Vida; xone IV,
Sidney Bales, Dorena; and zone
V, Harold N. Traxler, Creswell.

A busy holiday period has been
planned by Dr. Qulrlnus Breen, a
University of Oregon associate
professor of history and social
science.
On Dec. 30, Dr. Breen will read
a paper on "Nlzolius, a Sixteenth
Century Rhetorician," at the Na
tional Speech Assn. meeting in
Salt Lake City. He will read a pa
per on "Church History and High
er Learning" before the Pacific
division of the American Society
of Church History on Jan. 2, and
on Jan. 8 will act as chairman of
the section on Ancient and Medie
val history at the meeting of the
Pacific branch of the American
Historical Assn. The last two
meetings will be at the University
of California in Berkeley.
