Hiromto will surrender 90 per
cent of his wealth to the govern
ment as a special property tax,
tne imperial household depart
ment announced Friday.
Placing the emperors total
wealth at 3,710,716,338 yen-
about $250,000,000 (U. S.) the
department said property valued
at 3,338,260,712 yen will be turn
ed over to the government.
The emperor will retain pos
session of the inner palace, his
present residence, as well as the
Akasaka detached palace, Kyoto
detached palace and three villas

Salem Boy Blamed
For Baby's Death
SALEM C) The four-months-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. A.
Reynolds of the. Salem farm labor
camp died Thursday night from
burns which Sheriff Denver
Young said were reoeived when
a 6-year-old neighbor boy put her
into a hot cook stove.
The baby's mother said she had
gone to a neighbor's house and
had left the baby lying on bed.
wnen she came back, the baby
was in Ihe stove, Sheriff Young
quoted the woman as saying.
Young estimated the baby had
been lying on the glowing coals
for 10 minutes. The baby died
ave hours later.
Four Army Prisoners
Overpower Guard, Flee

Military and civil police broadcast
an alarm Friday lor four escaped
Army prisoners who overpowered
a work detail guard and seized
his rifle,
The prisoners were working In
an Army hospital car Thursday at
about S p.m. when one seized the
guard's rifle. While another held
a mess kit knife at the guard's
throat, he waa tied and thrown on
one of the beds In the ear.
The guard later untied himself
and reported the escape.

Four large maple trees next to
the Masonic Temple at Tenth and
Olive Sts. are being removed be
cause they are badly rotted, City
engineer William ciubb said Fri
day. Clubb said that lodge members
are now taking them out to pre
