Church Foundations
Said Near Completion
SPRINGFIELD Work on the
foundation of the First Christian
Church at Fourth and A Sts. here
is nearing completion, according to
Dallas Murphy, chairman of the
buildine committee.
Murphy said construction of
walls and roof probably will be
the next work undertaken. Cost of
the completed church is estimated
at about S70,ooo.
Traffic Lights Await
Preparation of Curbs
SPRINGFIELD The city has
received its signed copy of the 'con
tract with the state highway com
mission which provides for instal
lation of traffic lights at the corner
of Fifth and Main.
-Installation of the lights now
awaits cutting back of curbs and
jutting marquees at the intersec
tion. An ordinance recently was
passed prohibiting parking within
40 feet of the curb lines.
Juke Box Fees Due -
SPRINGFIELD City Recorder
K. R. Gile reminded restaurant
owners Friday that city licenses
wert ordered for juke boxes by
the city ordinance which set a tax
on pinball machines and punch
boards. A $24 annual license fee is
charged for the music boxes, he
said.

DETROIT (JP) The Detroit
News Friday announced in a page
one box that all display and clas
sified advertising will be omitted
from its edition next Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday because
of a newsprint shortage.
"The scarcity of railroad cars
and the severe weather in areas
where naper is produced," the
News said, "have held up badly
needed' shipments. Thus the News'
stock of newsprint available in
Detroit has dwindled to danger
ously low levels.
