tentions of Improving water dis
tribution services to keep up with
the increased population. Mayor
Claude Gerlach said Wednesday
that distribution facilities had
been increased but that the city
had received no. official indication
from Mountain States as to gen
eral improvement plans.
Mayor1 Gerlach pointed out that
during the summer it often be
comes necessary to curtail the use
of water to assure a supply for
fire protection.
Council action was precipitated
by a report from the mayor's spe
cial water committee who said
they could proceed no farther un
til Mountain States' future plans
were known.
The committee's report, submit
ed at the last council meeting, re
quested a statement from Moun
tain States on - "plans for the
future development of water dis
tribution and treatment facilities
within the City of Springfield and
for the area immediately sur
rounding it."
The committee requested that
the plans "be sufficiently detail
ed so that a reasonably careful
analysis, can be made from them."
The mayor's committee, con
sisting of Dr. W. . N. Dow, City
Attorney W. S. Fort and H. E.
Maxey, reported that this city
probably could receive treated
water from Eugene's proposed
filtration plant at Hayden Bridge
: : some arrangement could be
made 'in this city for distribution.
