fact in one case Friday by Joe

ing when a large cougar crossed
the highway in front of him.
He climbed out of the truck,
borrowed some dogs and a gun
from M. Mulligan, Lakeside, and
gave chase. A short distance into
the woods his dogs found the
cougar and held it at bay in a
tree While May finished him off.
Because he could not have
caught the animal without the
dogs. May donated the pelt to
the man who lent him his hunt

in a program for the coming year
recently proposed to the Lane
County Lookouts by Paul W. Da
vis, president.
The Lookouts, an organization
of shut-ins, will also consider
plans for radio broadcasts, a
a building fund for a "Lookout
Home," publication of The Out
look, the annual picnic, the Liv
ing Christmas Tree project, and
the sponsorship of a community
Christmas celebration.

William Conrad Hohnstein, of
1943 Agate St., died at his home
Friday at the age of 39. He was
born March 2, 1907, at Fort Col
lins, Colo., and married Hilda
Mary Helzer at Vancouver, Wash.
Jan. 21, 1925. They lived In Port
land until, moving to Eugene In
1929.
Surviving are his widow and
two sons, William J. and Hale A.,
of Eugene; three brothers, Phillip,
Harry and Edward, and his par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hohn
stein, all of Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at
the Poole-Larsen Mortuary Mon
day at 10 a.m., with concluding
services at Rest Haven Memorial
Park.

CROW Robert McDanlel was
a lucky hunter on the first day
of the open season when he and
a party were out hunting deer.
They saw a coyote and he killed
it Coyotes seem to be around in
several parti of the neighborhood.
Both coyotes and dogs have been
killing sheep for Church and
Clair Stephens. One was shot at
recently. The government trapper
now has his traps set for them.
The Sweet family who have
been living for some time on the
Frank Hadley farm, moved to the
Jesse McCullock farm where Mr.
