Ku KluxKlan Never Died
In Florida. Prober Asserts
By BEN PHLEGAR
MIAMI VP) The Ku Klux
Klan never died in Florida. Today
it is going cautiously but more or
less openly about its business of
enrolling "native Protestant white
Gentiles who believe in America
above all."
When the national "Invisible
empire" silently folded its regalia
and suspended operations in At
lanta on April 23, 1944, Florida
Klansmen toop only a brief sum
mer vacation.
On SeDt. 7 of the same year the
Ku Klux Klan of Florida obtained
a regular business charter in the
state. It contains about the same
blanket authority to operate any
sort of business as most regular
commercial charters.
Wizard Retired
Dr. James B. Colescott, imperial
wizard of the Klan at the time of
its suspension, now lives in re
tirement in Miami.- He said the
Florida revival was all a great
mystery to him.
Only once have fiery crosses
been burned. The Dade County
(Miami) sheriff's office reported
that five crosses were lighted Nov.
2, 1945, in front of Negro dwell
ings northwest of Miami. The
sheriff's report said the crosses
were burned by white men who
Dogwood Trees Defy
Calendar, Put Forth
Blossoms in August
Dogwood, the botany book says,
blooms in the Spring. But the dog
wood tree in the Deerhorn area
never read the book so they don't
know that. They've been blooming
anyway even if it is August.
Mrs. Benny Hall, Rt. 2, Spring
field, brought into the Register
Guard office Tuesday afternoon, a
large armload of the blooms,
which she said she had picked in
the Deerhorn area, to prove the
unseasonable blossoming.

Mrs. Dolores Hoyt returned to

were neither hooded nor masked.
A month later the Klan issued
a statement to the press under the
imprint of the "Great Titan of the
South Province of the State of
Florida," it said:
"We are operating under a legal
charter under the name Ku Klux
Klan of the state of Florida, Inc.
The K'an does not and will not
wear a mask.
"We are not race or religion
haters and we do respect all other
religions and expect others to re
spect ours. We are not Nazi or
Fascist minded. All of our mem
bers who were eligible served in
the armed forces of our country.
"We believe that Protestants
should have organizations as well
as other religions have theirs. The
Klan is' a religious organization,
and its principles can be found
in the 12th chapter of Romans,
first and second verses."
The Biblical passages referred
to are: '
"I beseech you. therefore, breth
ren, by the mercies of God, that
ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto
God, which is your reasonable
service.
"Be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that
ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable and perfect, will
of God."
