reunion of the Second Oregon
Volunteer Regiment of Infantry
in Laurelwood Park, Portland,
Sunday. This regiment served in
the Philippine Islands during the
Spanish-American war and Fili
pirP insurrection. Those from
Eugene were Mr. and Mrs. Leon
ard Gross, Mr. and Mrs. F. B.
Hamlin, Mr. and Mrs. Horace
Burnett, and Mrs. Florence White
aker. Others from Lane County
attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Smith L. Taylor of McKenzie
Bridge, W. J. Chapman of Cres
well and M. B. Huntly of Spring
field. Former Lane County resi
dents at the reunion included Mr.

Navy's Eddy test and has qualified
for training in radio electronics.

ell has enlisted in the Navy
through the local recruiting office.

regional farm ownership specialist
for the Farm Security Adminis
tration, is spending Tuesday and
Wednesday in Lane County ap
praising farms for farm ownership
loans. Cecil Youngstrom, Corval
lis, district supervisor, was in the
local office Tuesday on a business
visit.
The E,ugene Central- Labor
Council will meet the second and
fourth Tuesday ot each month,
announces Secretary Ray Mcln
nis. The change was decided upon
at the Monday night meeting in
the Labor Temple.
Roy G. Dorfler and John C.
Simpson, both of Oakridge, have
enlisted for IS months' service in
the Airborne Command through
the Eugene Army recruiting of
fice. Robert L. Barnes of Harris
burg signed for three years with
the Army Air Corps in the Pacific
Theater.
Lt, Robert S. Fleming, who has
been in charge ot the Army re
cruiting office here, has been re
lieved of duty and called to dis
trict headquarters in Portland for
assignment M-Sgt. R. M. Marley
new is in charge of the local sta
tion, which ranked third in the
state in the number of enlistments
during July. Marley said that 33
per cent of the July number was
reenlistments and 50 per cent
signed for three-year periods.
Walter S. Young, 494 W. 11th
St., who enlisted in the Army for
18 months July 23, is now engaged
in an eight-week training course
at the Engineer Training Center,
Ft. Lewis, Wash.

ham, both of Cottage Grove, were
married Monday morning at the
office of Justice of the Peace John
Bryson.
Essex Leonard, 35, of Swiss-,
home, was arrested by the state
police on a charge of being drunk
and disorderly. He was sentenced
to serve 60 days in the county jail
by the Justice Court in Florence.

was given a 60-day jail sentence,

Robert O'Neil, who showed his
dissatisfaction with county jail life
by trying to build a back door
where there shouldn't be one, left
the county jail legitimately, Tues
day. He will be housed for the
next three years at the state peni
tentiary at Salem.

Tuesday to obtaining money under
false pretenses and was sentenced
to three years in the penitentiary
by Judge Carl E. Wimberly.
O'Neil originally was sentenced
to serve two years for a similar
offense, and was out on parole
when he was arrested by the city
police Saturday.
