"As long as hate lives in the
world what nonsense it is to talk
of peace. And what did pur war
do to kill hate? Nothing. What
lesson have we learned? None. The

man still hates the Jew. The Aus

Italian hates the Yugolsav. Franco

"Every person, every nation has
its own hatreds. And what can
come from hatred but war? Well,
let it come. Even if I'm cracking
I can still say I've had a good life,
a bloody good life."
This young man is not yet 30
years old. He is unmarried. And
today he feels more certain of
having a second war than he does
of having children. He feels he has
had a full life. By most standards,
quiet standards, most men want to
live by, his lite has hardly begun.

Senate Group Bans
Union Interference
WASHINGTON, March 21 m
The Senate Labor Committee
has approved a ban against
union interference with farmers
delivering perishable commodities
to markets.
By a 5 to 4 vote, legislation to
establish a federal mediation
board which would attempt to
avert strikes through mediation
and conciliation was amended to
include the ban.
The measure, substitute for the
House-passed Case Strike Control
Bill, then was ordered reported to
the Senate for floor consideration.
Chairman Murray (D-Mont) said
there was no formal note on ap
proval. Senator Morse (R-Ore)
was among the five supporting the
amendment,

World Rifts
By R. H. SHACKFORD
WASHINGTON (U.R) Presi
dent Truman's efforts to discount
alarm over the international situa
tion were viewed today in the
light of world events and state
ments of his own State Depart
ment. There was agreement In respon
sible quarters, as Mr. Truman in
dicated, that there is no justifica
tion for alarm about the immi
nence of another war that the
best way of solving current prob
lems is to keep calm and cool.
But it is well known that some
of Mr. Truman's closest foreign
policy advisers do not feel too
optimistic about working out
world problems as satisfactorily
as the President's off-the-cuff
news conference statement might
indicate. . . ......
High congressional leaders",
equally concerned, today indirect
ly cautioned their colleagues that
the almost daily outbreak of floor
speeches against Russia and other
nations was further aggravating
the tense state of world affairs.
May Try Muzzles
. They told reporters it may be
necessary to make some effort to
jstop speeches which antagonize
other countries until current ten
sion is eased.
The President's advisers are not
worried about a new war. But
they are worried not only about
Soviet Russia's unilateral action
in Iran and its effect on the United
Nations, but about wounds being
inflicted by the Churchill-Stalin
name, calling over the Briton's
proposal for an Anglo-American
military alliance..
Pressed for comment on the In
ternational situation, Mr. Truman
told correspondents late yester
day: .
"I am not alarmed about it. I
am sure we will work' out of it."
Anxiety
But there was anxiety in offi
cial quarters about Winston
Churchill's decision: to speak over
an American Radio Network (Mu
tual) tonight. .'
Last minute cancellation by
Undersecretary of State Dean
Acheson of his earlier plan to sit
at the speaker's table with Church
ill at tonight's New York City
dinner for the former British
prime minister. Acheson excused
himself on grounds of pressing
official business. 1
The State Department's insis
tence that new reports support
its Tuesday night statement that
Soviet reinforcements are moving
into Iran. Other official quarters.
however, said that the late reports
about Soviet troop movements are
confusing and in some case con
tradictory.
,'. Frank admission by United Na
tions and American officials that
the Soviet '- Iranian -situation
threatens to-pose a crucial test
for UNO at the New York Secur
ity Council meeting March 25.
