For Rally
The Rev. James P. Beasom, D.
D recently elected full-time
president of the California Synod
of the United Lutheran Church of
America, will be principal speaker
at a rally of Lane County Luther
an Church members at 7:30 p. m.
Friday at Eugene High School.
This ralry marks the beginning
of a campaign being conducted
by the National Lutheran Council
to raise ten million dollars for
church relief and rehabilitation
activities in this country and
abroad. More than two and a half
million American Lutherans are
members, through their respective
churches, of the National Luther
an Council.
Local church officials reported
that Mr. Beasom has held the
presidency of the California
Synod for the past three years, in
addition to his pastorate of the
First Lutheran Church at Glen-
dale, Calif. He is now president
of the Southern California Luth
eran Welfare Council.
The National Lutheran Coun
cil represents the following Luth
eran churches: United Lutheran,
Augustan a Synod, United Evan
gelical, Danish Lutheran, Luther
an Free Church and Suomi Synod.
Ice Revues Open
At Arena Friday
An exciting evening of beauty
and burlesque .thrills and skills,
has been promised first-nighters
at the Ice Revues of 194S, which
will open Friday at 8 p.m. in the
Eugene Ice Arena.
Bud Leabo's orchestra will pro
vide background music for a vari
ety of solo, pair and chorus num
bers, all in costumes. Colored spot
lights will point up the skill of
Tigene's best figure skaters, from
the very-young members of the
Junior Figure Skating Club to the
members of the senior group.
Besides dance numbers the
show will offer several eomedy
acts, speed numbers, barrel-Jumps
by Eugene Thiessen, and solo
numbers by Margie Lee, only pro
fessional member of the cast. Miss
Lee, who is only 16, is a profes
sional skater of wide experience,
and is directing as well as starring
in the review.
The Eugene Shrine Club is
sponsoring the Ice Revues for the
benefit of fhe shrine Hospital for !
Crippled Children In Portland.
This hospital, which serves Ore
gon, Washington, Idaho and Alas
ka, now has a waiting list of 1300
children. Proceeds will be used to
help enlarge the hospital.
Following the opening night
Friday, shows have been sched
uled for Saturday and Sunday
nights, and a matinee for Satur
day at 2 p.m. This schedule will
be repeated March 1, 2 and 3.
Tickets are on sale at Miller's
store and at the First National
Bank, with all seats reserved
