Lions club meeting on Thursday

fessor of the speech department
of the University of Oregon,
brought a group of three speak
ers, Miss Barbara Bozorth, Miss
Esther Quier, and Miss Carolyn
Jacobs, who conducted a sym
posium on the Dumbarton Oaks
conference. At the business meet
ing of the club, plans were made
for naming an outstanding citizen
of the month. A citizen from this
community will be chosen for
outstanding civic contribution and
will be feted at a dinner the first
meeting of the month. The com
mittee making the January selec
tion will consist of Elmer Tohlen,
chairman: Norman Richards, Rev.
Louis Sohler, Earl Hill. A sum of
$13.50 was collected at the meet
ing to add to the Lane county
sports fund for infantile paraly
sis. The Lions club issued I chal
lenge to the chamber of com
merce to play them In a volley
ball game as an added attraction
at the special polio benefit on
Jan. 30 at the high school. It was
announced that at next week's
meeting an investiture ceremony
will be conducted. Bud Husted
will be in charge.
Seoul Event Set
A district meeting of the South
Lane district. Boy Scouts of
America, Oregon Trail council,
has been announced for the eve
ning of Jan. 24. A potluck dinner
will be served in the IOOF hall
at Cottage Grove, starting at 6:30
o'clock. Following the dinner, a
business meeting will be held and
officers will be elected. All scout
officials, scouters, and friends of
scouting are Invited to attend.
The Jefferson school has con
tributed to the Infantile paraly
sis fund in an unique way. Two
special evenings of sport were
sponsored this week. In order to
raise money for the fund. On
Wednesday evening, the girls'
teams and the boys' A and B
squads played Creswell grade
school. Cottage Grove won all
three games, the cubs winning by
an Impressive score of 33-17.
Drain played Cottage Grove on
Thursday evening. Again the Cot
tage Grove teams won the three
games, the score for the main
game standing at 49-20. The
$25.00 In gate receipts will be sent
to the sports fund.
