boro, Alabama, was solemnized
Wednesday evening at a simple
ceremony at the Parks residence.
The wedding had been planned
for Friday afternoon, but owing
to unexpected orders coming for
Sgt. Scott, the ceremony was ar
ranged two days earlier..
The double ring service was
read at nine o'clock by Rev. L. O.
Griffith of the First Methodist
church before a window, gladi
oluses and clematis being ar
ranged there for the decorations.
Only members of the family
and a few close friends of the
couple were present for the wed
ding. Mrs. Evelyn Wilhelm and Ken
neth Griffith attendad the couple.
The bride wore a floor length
dress In aqua and with, it a
strand of pearls, gift of the bride
groom, and white flowers In her
hair. For her bouquet the bride
carried coral gladioluses.
Mrs. Wilhelm wore a dress in
pink, and her flowers were white
gladioluses.
Following the service, refresh
ments were served.
Parties Given
The past Monday evening, Mr.
and Mrs. Nelson Durham of Cot
tage Grove entertained at a din
ner for Sgt. Scott and Miss Parks.
Thursday noon, the officers
and staff of the Lane county
welfare commission, where Mrs.
Scott has a position, gathered for
a luncheon to honor the bride,
the party being a no-host one in
the mirror room at the Eugene
hotel, twenty attending. Herbert
Alton was toastmaster and a gift
was presented Mrs. Scott. Mrs.
Robert R. Booth and Mrs. Wil
liam Gardner arranged the
luncheon.

pils in a program at her home,

solemnized Friday evening at a
ceremony at seven o'clock in the
First Baptist church parlor. Rev.

service before a group of rela
tives. Mr. Hudson has been visiting
here, the first time he has been
home on leave for three and one
half years. He has been in the .
south Pacific for some time. He
has been in the service six years
and is now on a thirty-day leave.
The bride has been on the Eu
gene Vocational school faculty
for the past two years.
At the wedding, Miss Ruth
Solberg, cousin of the bride
groom, and Lawrence Meakins
of Portland attended the couple.
The bride wore a light blue
suit with white accessories and
a corsage of gardenias and pink
rosebuds. E. A. Solberg, Sr., gave
the bride in marriage.
A reception was held at the
Hudson home following the serv
ice at the church.
Attending the wedding and re
ception were the parents of the
bridegroom, and Mr. and Mrs.
Dalton Thurman, Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Crafts, Mrs. Bill Williams,
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Solberg, Sr.,

The couple will leave for
Washington, D.C., Mr. Hudson to
enter a school for advanced

includes Mrs. Gray. Mrs. Floyd

women voters will have a pot
luck supper at the home of Mrs.

An event of the past week was
the dinner gathering for women
of the Eugene Country club,
Wednesday evening, about forty
attending. Purpose of the din
ner was to present trophies from
the annual championship tour
nament. Mrs. L. S. Axland, chairman of
women's activities at the club,
pvesidedat the general meet
ing and Mrs. Lynn S. McCready,
social chairman, presented the
awards.
Mrs. John Bushman received
the Babb award for the cham
pionship, Mrs. Weir McDonald
the runner-up recognition. Mrs.
Axland was first flight winner,
Mrs. Claude Johns, runner-up;
and Mrs. J. W. Lewis was sec
ond flight winner with Mrs. C.
W. Godlove as runner-up. An
entertaining feature of the eve
ning was presentation of con
solation "awards."
Cards were played following
the dinner, and program.

visiting ladies taking in the con

the local hostesses' committee.

Ericson, daughter of Mr. and

Oregon.
The wedding was an event of
Aug. 2 in Minneapolis, home city
of the bride.
The couple will be at home at
1888 University street in the early
fall when Dr. Schumacher re
turns for the campus fall term.

Girl Scout Camp
Happy Memory for .
Large Group Here
Summer camp Is a happy mem
ory for 224 campers who attend
ed the Girl Scouts Camp Clea
wox, the council closing its
twelfth successful season at the
camp the first week in August.
The camp accommodated 120
two-week campers and 104 one
week campers. The average age
of thir season's campers was 12
and 13 years.
The highlights of the camp for
the older campers included
trip across the sand dunes to
the ocean; and hikes on the Woa
hink lakeside trail.
Other activities offered dur
ing the summer were swimming
instructions by qualified Red
Cross water safety instructors,
eight girls satisfactorily com
pleting their junior lifo saving
requirements, with many other
campers receiving beginner and
swimmer cards.
Outdoor cooking with each unit
having an opportunity to cook
breakfast, lunch and supper out,
was one of the popular camp ac
tivities. Campflres were held each eve
ning In the many different in
viting spots of the camp site.
The closing campflre featured
Viking campers, the older girls,
serenading from a floating barge
out in the lake. All campfire
and dramatics were under the di
rection nf Miss Susan Huftaker.
Camp Cleawox was officially
Inspected and approved during
the season by Miss Ruth Stephen
son of the national Girl Scout
staff, Mrs. Leon Lassus, of Salem
for the regional Girl Scout com
mittee, and Mrs. Charles D.
Byrne of Eugene an Interested
volunteer inspector.
The local camp committee re
sponsible for the successful
camping season was hearled by
Mrs. Charles H. Michel and as
sisting were P, M. Morse, C. F.
Hyde, Miss Florence Alden, Mrs.
Ivan Traynor, Mrs. C. C. Carter.
Miss Marjory Stewart, Girl Scout
executive here, directed the
camp.
