DELIGHT VALLEY Mist
Freda Stalder of Portland has been
spending this week at the hone
of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Stalder.
Pfc Jim Hayes of the air force
at Colorado Springs is spending a
furlough with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Rice Hayes. One evening he
was a dinner guest at the Oscar
Flaten home.
The Frank McDonalds have pur
chased part of the Lawrence
Brown ranch. The McDonalds have
been renting the Brown place the

Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Whiteacre
of Los Angeles were recent guests
at the home of Mrs. C. Davidson.
E. A, Danielson, county 4-H club
leader, was at the Delight Valley
school Wednesday evening and
gave a talk in the interest of two
4-H clubs to be started soon in the
community. He also showed some
motion pictures of South America.

Santa -Clara Grange
Hears FFA Speakers
SANTA CLARA The Santa
Clara grange met Tuesday eve
ning. The literary program was
given first. M. C. Buchanan of
Eugene introduced two FFA boys .
of the Kugene high school, John
Backlund and'Al Roy Jonez. Al
Roy talked on rat control and
John on "The Oregon Farmer
Faces the Future." John Back
lurid represented Eugene in the
diEtrict contest in Junction City
Friday evening.
Visitors were Mr. and Mrs. M. ;
C. Buchanan and children, John '
Backlund, Al Roy Jonez, Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Boeheringer and two j
daughters, Misses Dorothy and I
Marion Boeheringer. Marion has
joined the Spars and expects to
leave soon for Florida.
The grange voted to hold un In
itiation Tuesday evening, April
4, for the first and second degree
work and on April 18 the third
and fourth degree work will be
put on. All neighboring granges
ate invited to bring their candi
dates to receive the initiation.
Dan Young received the third and
fourth degree obligation. The
agriculture report was by A. V.
Thompson who talked on "dried
whole milk," and E. G. Vogt ex
plained how the powdered milk
was made. He also talked on
purchasing war goods. Dan Young
talked on bean rust and diseases
of filberts, also on commercial
fertilizer being fine for flax and
nay, too. Mrs. Mary Sederlin fur
nished the decorations.
The refreshments committee
included Mrs. Mary Sederlin and
Mrs. O. K. Baldwin. The dinner
committee for March 7 is Mr. and
Mrs. C. Vanderpot, Mr. and Mrs.
A.' V. Thompson and Mrs. Alma
Rowling. A report was given by
just part of the bond drive com
mittee Tuesday evening. The re
port showed $27,630 from Santa
Clara district. A discussion was
held on the northwest hospital
service plan.
Seven of the Santa Clara grang
ers attended the Spencer Creek
grange dinner and meeting last
week.

of Tillamook, are visiting at the
home of the former's parents, Mr.

Silver Jones of Farragut, Ida.,
has finished his boot training, and
is visiting his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Merl Jones.
George N. Yarbrough arrived
home from Panama, after three
years in the service. He is visit
ing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.
B. Yarbrough and his sisters and
families.
Herb Ryan, planer foreman at
the Booth-Kelly plant, cut off
his right hand while working at
one of the planers recently.
The Canary patrol met at the
Girl Scout's cabin recently for a
Valentine party. There was a
valentine exchange and games
were played. Refreshments were
served to Mrs. Muriel McConnell,
the leader of the Girl Scouts,

The Civil Air Patrol is starting
some new classes again this week,
this time in navigation and photo
graphy. They also plan to have
military drill. The C.A.P. group
from Cottage Grove went to Eu
gene to a meteorology class re
cently and when the test grades
were handed back Cottage Grove
had had the highest score. Trans
portation is furnished for those
who need It. xne class in pnoio
graphy will start Feb. 23, and
will be held at the high school.

course.
The Cottage Grove B-squad
outclassed the junior class intra
mural basketball champions 43-7
in a game last week..
In the first games of the intra
mural volleyball tournament
starting last week, the juniors
dropped the freshmen 21-8 and
21-12 in a doubleheader.
A much taller senior volley
ball team downed a lively sopho
more team 21-7 and 21-8 in a
doubleheader during the noon

ZION. All the grade school and
high school young people were in
vited to attend a party last saiur

ladies of the home demonstration
club and more than 20 boys and
girls came to enjoy the evening of

of Elkton chapter 143, O.-E. S.
Mrs. Blanche Wade, as marshal,

by Initiation, and an application
for re-instatement was received.
It was announced that a'conven
tion will be held at Elkton, on
March 14. Four visitors, Mrs. Al'

and Mrs. Martin were present.

schoolhouse 66, and will move it

WENDLING. The girl's sewing
club met at the schoolhouse Tues
day afternoon with the leader,
Mrs. Cora Wearin, for a Valentine
party. Names were drawn at a

corder, has published a financial
statemsnt for the city of Waldport
for the year 1943. A cash balance
remained on hand Dec. 31 of
$2,240.32. An Interesting Item is
that no fines were collected tor
