amount to $100. which will be di
vided among either two or three
winners.
The contest is open to all regu
larly enrolled undergraduate stud
ents at the University of Oregon,
except previous winners. There
are no limits or specifications as
to length or subject, but each con
testant may submit only one
story. March 1 is the deadline for
entrance in the contest.
Charles Croner New
Mayor at Oakridge
OAKRIDGE Charles H. Croner
unanimously was elected mayor
by members of the city council at
a special meeting held in the city
hall. E. T. Templeman who has
served as mayor for several years
recently presented his resignation
and the council accepted it at the
meeting. Croner has been a mem
ber of the council for eight years
and has served on the finance,
judiciary, and health committees.
He has taken an active part in
community affairs for years.
Three councilmen were elected
10 till out unexpired terms. Those
elected are Val Lee, Clarence Dorf
ler, and Charles S. Briscoe. Fred
W. Dorfler will take over the
duties of recorder.
The councilmen agreed to In
stall several new street lights at
some of the darkest corners
throughout the city. Two lights
will be put up on the overhead
crossing, one will be just oft of
Commercial street on the ap
proach of the crossing, and the
other will be at the south end.
Another light will be Installed at
the corner of Commercial and
Pine streets near the S. P. water
tank; and another between the
block on Pine street and Uie third
nn the corner ot Commercial and
Hazel streets.
Plans were formulated for the
erection ot a building on First
street back ot the former Hills
service station. The building will
lace north and consist of one large

The meeting night of the coun
cil was changed from the first
Monday of the month to the first
Wednesday of each month.
