Pvt. Margaret E. Muhr was
graduated recently from the
WAC administration school, at
Stephen F. Austin State col
lege, Nacogdoches, Texas, ac
cording to an announcement re
leased from the public relations
office of that school.
Private Muhr successfully
completed a course of eight
weeks' instruction in army ad
ministration. Her new assign
ment is one which prior to the
inception of the WAC would
have been given to an enlisted
man.

Elmer Gordon Fletcher
Is Major, Medical Corps
Major Elmer Gordon Fletcher,
son of Mrs. Marie Fletcher, and
I the 4ate Dr. E. L. Fletcher of Eu
! gene, recently received his pro-
motion in rank from captain. He
i is with the army medical corps in
North Africa. Major Fletcher, a
i graduate of the U. of O. in the
i 20 s, la'.er attended the Univer-
sity of Oregon medical school and
took his degree at the Pennsyl
vania University medical school.
. He practiced in St. Augustine,
Fla., and in Oakland, Cal., prior to
entering the service.
BARNUM PROMOTED
Master Sergeant A. E. Barnum,
23, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L.
Barnum of Cresweil, Route 1, an
aerial gunner at Wendover Field,
Utah, recently was promoted to
his present rank. A graduate of
Pleasant Hill high school, he en
tered the army in July, 1941.

Dr. C. H. Michel
Opens Office Here
New residents of Eugene are Dr.
and Mrs. C. H. Michel, recently of
Oakland, Calif., and before that
of Chicago Heights, 111., where Dr.
Michel practised for 18 years as
an op'.ometrist. They decided to
locate here after spending two
months touring ' Oregon for an
"ideal location, when Oakland s
coastal climate failed to agree. Dr.
Michel has taken a suite, rooms
833 and 834, in the Miner building,
where he will open offices No
vember 23.
Dr. Michel is a graduate of
Bradley Technical college, and re
ceived his degree of doctor of op
tometry at Northern Illinois col
lege. He also received an honorary
degree of ocular science for re
search. He was chief of the clinic
of Northern Illinois college for
two years and a visiting staff
member for eight years. He also
was active in both state and na
tional optometric associations.
He is a member of the profes
sional fraternity of Omega Delta,
is a 32nd degree Mason, and a past
commander of the American
Legion.

sponsored by the Masonic lodge.

The choir will also sing Decem
ber 6 at trie Osburn hotel for a
community chest luncheon.

He will leave school Wednesday,
the 24th, and leave for the army
the 26th. He does not know what
branch he will be in as yet
Mr. Huff came to Eugene high
last fall. While teaching at EH8
he took on the added responsibility
of being advisor for the stamps
and bonds sales. Ralph G. Bailey,
Instructor of mathematics, will be

'Frying Pan' Farce
Is Fired for Friday
The comical, entertaining story
of group of kids trying to break
into the New York stage Is told
in "Out of the Frying Pan," farce
by Frances Swann which will open
the University Theatre s new sea
son Friday night, November 26 on
the stage of Johnson hall.
Subsequent performances will
be given Saturday night, and again
on Friday and Saturday of the fol
lowing weekend, December S and

The three-act production Is un
der direction of Horace W. Robin
son, acting head of the University
drama department, who also ap
pears in a small role. Dr. Robert
D. Horn of the English depart'
ment also has a part The bulk of
the east consists of students.

Reta Fry Preparing
To Be Storekeeper '
Ret M. Fry, 33, daughter of
Mrs. Ruth A. Fry, 1932 Villard,
was enrolled recently at the
naval training school for store
keepers on the Indiana Univer
sity campus at Bloomlngton,
Ind., and Is now preparing to
replace shore-stationed mala
storekeeper.
At Indiana she Is receiving
expert instruction in storing,
recording, reporting, requisi
tioning and invoicing stocks.
Classroom curriculum is sup
plemented with physical train
ing and recreation periods.

The girls' athletic association
held its monthly meeting and pot
luck Thursday evening, November
18. The sophomores were in charge
of the clean up and in keeping
with the practice of last year, the
class that is on clean up gets to
eat first. i
Volleyball and games were play
ed during the remainder of the
evening.
An organization meeting of boys
interested in wrestling was held
in room 217 at 4 p.m. last Wed
nesday. About 30 boys attended. I
The team plans to have wrest- :
ling matches with other high
schools and to. sponsor smokers.
The wrestling 'will be In coopera
tion with the physical education
program and rigid training will be
required.
Eight students from the com
mercial art class helped .with the
window display, show cases and
merchandise display at Montgom
ery Ward last Tuesday night.
The students participating were
