Rehabilitation Courses
For Service Men Planned
Returning service men and
women may take advantage of a
rehabilitation program which is
being inaugurated at the Univer
sity of Oregon, 'it was learned
this week from Donald M. Erb,
president of the university, before
his departure for the east.
To correlate the work of the
university with other agencies
interested in the same problem
; the veterans' administration, the
Kstate department ot rehabilitation
service, the, Eugene vocational
school President Erb has. ap
pointed a rehabilitation education
committee. . Members are Dr.
Ralph W. Leighton, dean of the
school ot physical education,
chairman; Andrew Vincent, pro
fessor of drawing and painting;
V. D. Earl, dean of men; Dr. W.
C. Jones, professor of political
science and public administration;
E. H. Moore, head of the sociol
ogy department; A. B. Stillman,
professor of business administra
tion; and Dr. P. A. Killgallon, as
sociate professor of education,

school of education, will repre
sent the committee in conferences
with the veterans' administra
tion; with A.-1. Paulsen, state di
rector of vocational education,
Salem; and with the Eugene
school board during that board's!
development of its own program
through the Eugene vocational
school.
A survey is being made of all
the facilities and courses offered
by professional - schools and the
college of liberal arts. Based on
its experience in handling the
army specialized training pro
gram, it is felt that the university
can offer special types of courses
to meet special needs.
Arrangements have also been
made between the University of
Oregon and the Eugene board of
education whereby rehabilitation
students enrolled either in the
university or in the Eugene vo
cational school may be served by
the particular facilities of the
other institution.
The four types of ex-servicemen
and women who may be aid
ed by the university's program
are: (1) regular students who
have gorje directly into the arm
ed services from high school and
who will be entering college for
the first time; (2) students who
will have partly completed a col
lege course before entering the

Foundry Pay Case
To Be Reopened
SEATTLE, Oct. 20 (U.B Dr.
George Bernard Noble, chairman
ot the northwest Regional War
Labor board, announced he' will
appoint a panel to reopen the
wage case of Pacific Northwest
foundry workers as soon as the
appeal arrives from Washington,
D. C.
The union's earlier demands for
wage increases were turned down'
by the national war labor board
but the union appealed the de
cision- and planned to take a
strike vote October 28 on expira
tion of the 30-day "cooling off"
period required under the Con.
ally anti-strike bill because of
failure to receive wage increases,
Dr. Noble said he was unable
to appoint a panel to hear the
foundry worker? appeal until he
had received the case from Wash
ington. However,- the panel will
be appointed "immediately" after
receipt of the records, he declar
ed, adding that the case was ex
pected "very soon."
