Makes Many Contacts

Boy Scouts of America, indicated
today that contracts have been
made with nearly 20 institutions
in Lane county regarding sponsor
ship of cub packs, boy scout
troops, or senior units.
The charter club was started
last week to carry on an organira-
tion campaign during the next 60
days, Lynn S. McCready, cam-
paign chairman, said. McCready
explained that the club hopes to
make available more quality
scouting gor boys in Lane county,
He pointed out that only one out
of six boys are boy scouts, si
though surveys show that three
out of four boys want to be mem
bers of boy scout troops.

ed to such organizations as
churches, civic clubs, parent-
teacher associations, granges, vet
eran and fraternal groups, or

its usual theme of eventual axis
world domination to give, for the
first time, its version of what
would follow an allied victory In
Europe. .
"With the defeat of Europe by
the anti-axis forces," Tokyo said,
"America Will have to foot the

Very tall cosmos, huge beets,
and Easter lilies 'twas a day In
the produce department, ,
Says Mrs. Walter Lunney of
Yoncalla: "I believe I can beat
Route F on cosmos. I. have some
that measure 90 inches in height"
The large augar beets came from
our old friend T. J. Robinson, 164
Nineteenth Avenue east, whose
garden has been in the news con
siderably this season. One ot these
beets weighed 37 pounds and had
a circumference of 32 Inches. The
other beet weighed 32 pounds and
was 32 Inches in length. Robinson
displayed them at the First Na
tional bank.

lily blooming for the second time
this season. She received the lily
last Easter ss a potted plant. She
planted It outside when the flower
ceased blooming. Now the plant Is
blooming again in the yard, having
three liues on It. . .

Ship Named for Poet
Launched in South
WILMINGTON, Cal. (U.B The
liberty tanker, S.S. Paul Dunbar,
named for the negro poet and
author Paul Lawrence Dunbar,
was launched this week at Cali
fornia Shipbuilding yards, 31 days
after the keel was laid.
The vessel is the eighth ot its
type launched at the yards and
the 274th ship prepared tor war
service.
Dunbar, Whose poems are In
cluded in the collections, "Majors
and Minors" and "Lyrics of Low
ly Life," also served as assistant
in the library of congress. ?
