"A Night to Remember," now at
the HelUg theater, finds both
Loretta Young and Brian Aherne,
Its co-stars, in unaccustomed
roles.
Aherne, usually seen in dra
matic parts, here tables light com
edy and proves a find. Miss
Young, usually glamorous in dress
and setting, is this time the wife
of a struggling writer and lives
in a tiny Greenwich Village
apartment The story concerns
efforts of the couple to solve a
murder In their rooms, also the
mysterious conduct of other ten
ants in the building.
Tne names or jeti oonnen ana
Lee Patrick in the cast will con
fuse some. Both are young wo
men. Jeff, in a brief but telling
role, turns on hysterics for her
third consecutive picture and
well.
To heighten spooklness. the
film features some of the lowest
key lighting in years. At times
the set was so dark it was con
sidered wise to put guide lights
on the offstage floor at places
where persona might stumble.
Sidney Toler, cast as a canny
detective and usually a "one take"
actor, excusably spoiled a couple
or rehearsals the first morning.
He slipped Into the dialect of an
other detective he plays, Charlie
Chan.
The second feature is "Laugh
Your 'Blues Away" with Jinx
Falkenburg and Bert "Mad Rus
sian" Gordon.
