Russia By United States

today that the United States has
sent approximately 2,600 airplanes
to the Soviet Union more than
has been sent by lend-lease to the
United Kingdom or to any other
military theater,
Reporting on United Nations
aid to the Soviet Union, Stettinius
said shipments of all kinds of mil
itary equipment were greatly in
creased after a slow start. The
United States has lent 81,000
trucks and jeeps and other motor
vehicles and 3,200 tanks ,to the
USSR, he said. ;

demonstrated physical ' fitness
techniques, , Thursday, Jan. 11,
from 10:40 to noon and from
1:40 to 3.30. . - !
The purpose of tha sessions
was to aid superintendents, prin
cipals, and physical education
teachers of Lane and Douglas
counties in initiating their phy
sical fitness programs under the
high school victory corps organ
ization as directed by the United
States office of. education.
Janet Woodruff, associate pro
fessor of physical education, was
the director. The demonstrations
included running, relays, drills,
apparatus, and self-testing activi
ties in the morning. The after-!
noon demonstration consisted of
locomotor and aerial gymnastics,
sports, and testing and standards.

A poetry contest provided fun
and amusement for Uni-Hi stu
dents in an assembly held Jan. 8.
First prize was given to Martha
Thorsland and Marilyn Rowling
for their poems, "We are the Of
fice Girls." Second prize went to
Dean Axtell and Glenn Morgan

Persons who wished to enter
the contest were asked to write
original poems entered the con-
test.
