"Why the Chimes Rang" is the
name of the play to be presented
by the drama group and choir.
The plot of "Why the Chimes
Rang" concerns two small boys,

They are surpjeieed by their uncle
who comes to visit and takes them
to the church service. At this
church service people come from
far and wide to present gifts at the
altar in hopes that some gifts will
cause the chimes to ring. The
finding of an old woman, the sacri

with her, and the younger boy's
gift of a few cents on the altar,
causing the chimes to ring, bring
this Christmas story to a close.
The characters are as followi:

my King, Janet Heisel, Dorothy
Chapman, Julian Hultgren. The
gift bearers are, Bill Evans, Alice
Collins, Doris May Evans, Amor

beaten here by the Portland Boil

Astoria lumped to a 10 to 5 lead
early in the opening period, but!
the Ducks, led by veteran Ralph I

minutes of the first half to pull
into a 19 to 12 lead at halftlme.
Sandnesa Stars
Astoria, paced by Palmberg, Earl
Sandness, former University of
Oregon hoop star and member of
the 1939 nation championship
squad and Reuben Wirkkunen,
all-state member of last year's
championship Astoria high con
contingent rallied to close the gap
in the second half, but could get
no closer than four points 30 to
26 after eleven minutes.
The Ducks gradually pulled
away from that point, and pro
tected their lead till the end.
High-point man for . the game
was Furhman with nine. He was
followed for the Ducks by Bob
Newland with 6.
Wirkkunen and Sandness topped
the all-stars with eight apiece,
while Palmberg garnered seven j

losers, This was his first appear
ance on the maple court for some
time, and the 30-year old hoop--;
ster gave a sterling performance
before his popular home crowd.
The Ducks looked better than
they did Friday against the Boil
ermakers, but still lacked the co
ordination and passing that is
necessary to win the Northern
Division crown.
It was the all-stars' first game,
and they had practiced seven days
prior to the Oregon tilt
