San Francisco Has
'De-Gassing' Stations

conscious San Francisco has tested
and made ready for uh the fint of
85 public 'de-gassing stations"
which will be located at strategic
points in the city in caw of enemy
air attack with poison fas bombs.
Erected by the Red Cross, the I
station is capable of treating 120 1
victims an hour. Building cost
was $2,000.
Dr. Maurice Tainter of the Bed
Cross pointed out that speed was
the paramount necessity in treat
ment of pr-ison gas victims and
said the stations would save
"countless lives'' if the city were
subjected to a large gas stuck.
"The thing that should be em
phasized is speed," Tainter said.
"Best results from gas contamina
tion are accomplished within 10 or

Survivors include the widow;
daughter Miss Mary Anna Wil
loughby, now in Washington, D. C.;
three brothers. Dr. R. Ray Wil
loughby, Philadelphia, Paul R.
Willoughby of San Diego, Cal., and
R. Wayne Willoughby of iugene;
and one aunt, Mrs. A. G. Gillette
of Eugene.
Funeral services will be held
Friday at 2 p. m. at Veatch-Hol-lingsworth
chapel, Rev. E. S. Bart
lam of St Mary's Episcopal church
officiating. Interment will be in
the Mausoleum.
In tribute to Dr. Willoughby, Dr.
J. M. Miller, who had known him
for many years, gave the following
statement: "Having known Dr.
Willoughby for many years and
having associated with him In a
professional way, I sincerely
mourn his passing. He was a skill
ed and conscientious dentist, a
kind and considerate friend. The
profession will miss him."

The de-gassing stations would
serve as emergency centers for
victims, after which they would
be transferred to hospitals.
The procedure was demonstrat
ed recently In a drill with live
models participating. Attendants,
wearing gasproof clothing, rushed
the "patients" into a sealed cham
ber and stripped off their clothes.
In an adjoining section, they
were treated under a shower and
the gas rubbed off. After thorough
scrubbing and first aid for gas
burns, the patientj were transferr
ed to a hospital.
Separate sections are available
for men and women.

treasury department who collared
the men and seized 210,000 un-
perrorated stamps of 25-cent de-
, nomination potentially worth $52-

They said that some months
ago one of the prisoners went to
Detroit to .sell a block of the
bogus stamps at half price to the
Detroit fang which in turn was to
re.ihre a substantial profit by
turning the stamps in for defense
bonds.
