night held recently at the school
building and thanks all who
helped make it a success and for
making donations of food.
The first and second grades
sponsored the fish pond, cakes,

was quite badly bruised, and cut
about the face Tuesday afternoon,
going from school, when her car
went into the ditch near the Joe
Abeene place. .
Lillian Geer, who is attending
junior college -; at Sacramento,
came home to spend the holidays
. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
J. L. Geer.
EXTENSION UNIT MEETS
NORTH FORK, Dec. 20 (Spe
cial) Members of the Home Ex
tension unit, their families and
friends enjoyed a dinner at the
grange hall last week. Dinner
was. served to about seventy
people. After the dinner the fol
lowing program was given; group
singing led by Mrs. Leo Meadows;
a talk on soil conservation by Mr.
Graden of Florence, and a talk on
"Food to Keep Us Fit" by Nellie
Lyle.
Mi-s. Herbert Henderson enter
tained the members of the Ladies'
Aid at her home recently at an
all-day meeting. The next meet
ing will be January 14 at the home
of Mrs. W. J.- Meadows.

and family for several days.

who is in a navy school at Seattle.

The P.-T. A. meeting was held
recently In the schoolhouse, It was
decided to purchase treats for all
children in the community, high
school age Included. Games were
played. Mr. Morningstar and Miss
Marsh were captains for a quiz
contest between the men and wom
en. The men won. .Christmas carols
were sung, led bj; Mrs. Mae Coop
er. Mrs. Roy Wilcox and Mrs. Wil
liam Maddaugh were accepted as
new members. Refreshments were
served by Mrs. Ralph Johnson and
Mrs. Roy Wilcox.
The observation post and com
munication center have been or
ganized for the Veneta district,
with headquarters at the Western
Lane Fire Patrol office. People of
the community are taking their
turn for the 24-hour watch.
