At the Christmas assembly held
December 19, the E. H. S. orches
tra, under the direction of Douglas
Orme, played several selections.
Among the pieces played was:
"A Christmas Fantasia" by press
man, also heard on the program
were two solos by members of the
orchestra; Everett Fulton piano
solo, and Eugene Hebrard, cornet
solo.
Business of the last meeting of
Esculo y Agila, Eugene high's
Spanish club, consisted mostly of
committee reports.
They consisted of the radio pro-;
gram committee; and the scrap i
book committee, consisting of Don
Simpson, Margaret McGee, Rose
mary Marshall, Marvin Mayfield
and Bettie Davis.
Bettie Hall,' cfub president, pre
sented a financial report on the
banquet and Margaret McGee an
nounced the committees for the
next club party In January.
Seven new members were re
cently elected Into the service club,
and will be initiated shortly after
the holidays.
Those elected were Ervin Webb,
Don Beairsto, Roberta Hughes,
Ann Langston, Melba Finch, and
Ruth Robertson. Donald Derrick
son is president of the club.
The Girls' League Christmas
bazaar was held December 17, and
19, in the Eugene high school
towels, pot holders,
aprons and the like were donated
by the girls.
The bazaar was organized by
Norma Aalvik and Dorothy Len
hart under the direction of Miss
Carolyn L. Woods, social studies
teacher and financial advisor of
the League.
The Girls Reserves organization
of Eugene high school is sponsor
ing the annual Christmas seal

of Eugene, is an aircraft spotter
with the aircraft warning service.

Josef Hofmann, hailed by crit
ics as the "greatest pianist of our
time," will be presented here at
McArthur court on Wednesday eve
ning, January 7, as the third attrac
tion of the university of Oregon's
1941-42 "Greater Artist" series.
Since he made his American de
but In 1887, as a child of ten, Hof
mann has risen to the pinnacle of
his craft. For the cast 54 years he
has thrilled music lovers the world
over and critics and audiences hail
him as an artist who performs
each year the astonishing feat of
surpassing himself. .
Mr. Hofmann made his last Eu
gene appearance in 1935 and there
has been a constant demand for
a return engagement since that
memorable concert. Tickets will be
placed on sale for the January 7
recital on Monday, December 29,
at the A.S.U.O. ticket office in Mc
Arthur court.

specks over its furry round body

whieh has habit of pitying San
ta Claus all year round.
Topsy has taken temporary shel
ter at the heme of Mrs. E. J. Ed
wards at 2018 Orchard avenue.
Someone "left" the infant dog in
the neighborhood, and Mr. Ed
wards gave it a bit of food and
love. She cannot keep Topsy be
cause she has another dog, so she
would like to find a nice home for
the three-month-old pup.

The 43 employees of the R. A.
Babb Hardware company were
given $25 and $50 denomination
defense bonds in addition to their
yearly cash bonuses for Christ
mas this year.
. The gifts were handed out at
a meeting of the store staff Fri-'
day night, Belden Babb present
ing the bonds and the money.

house will be held Sunday, De
cember 28, at 4 p.m. for people of
Eugene, A. F. Holmer has an
nounced. All members of the university
and city YMCA board, the com

guests. A brief program will be
given in -which recognition will
be given those individuals who
have contributed most to the pro
gram this past year. This will be
followed by a social hour.

individuals and organizations espe
