James A. Rodman, Lane county
representative, will be in Port
land Wednesday to be the main
speaker for the noon luncheon
meeting of the Multnomah Coun
ty Republican club. He will dis

gene, newly elected state presi

Victor Fogle Returns
Victor Fogle, who has been em
ployed In the United States army
engineers at Albany for several
months, working on the Corvallis
army cantonment plans, has re
turned to Eugene and is again in
the office of the county engineer.
Duck Hunting Good
Bud Kompp was at Siltcoos lake
last week-end, hunting ducks. He
said the ducks are plentiful on the
lake and in that vicinity. He had
Ben Stevenson of Westlake as
guide. Mr. Kompp while there
killed a bobcat and obtained the
bounty on it at the courthouse

Hal Young Goes
Into Business;
Resigns Campus Job
Hal Young, for several years
professor of voice at the Univer
sity of Oregon school of music,
has resigned his position with the
institution and, Tuesday, an
nounced he. will be a partner with
George F. Schaefers in operating
the Eugene Recreation center.
Mr. Young will be on hand at
Recreation, Tuesday evening, to
greet friends in his new business
venture.
"It was a big decision to make
to give up my work in the school
of music, but the opportunity to
go in business for myself was too
great to pass by," Mr. Young said.
This fall marked the sixth year
for Mr. Young at the school of
music. Several years preceding
his coming here to make his home
he had been in Eugene for a year
with his music work. For some
time he has been director also for
the First Christian church choir
and expects to continue in that
position.
Bowling has been one his recre
ational hobbies for several years,
and at present he is the top aver
age bowler at Recreation, and is
president of the Eugene Bowling
association. He has been active
in promoting several bowling pro.
grams and special events while
here.
Mr. Young announce he is dis
continuing teaching voice, al
though music will continue to b
his big interest "on the side." -

truck tire valued at $85, and

with selling the tire, were arrest
ed late Monday by Deputy Sheriff
Nelson F. Whipps and Ted Finu
cane, chief of police at Spring
field. The men were in the county
iail.
The tire allegedly stolen is
brand new and was owned by
Harry McGee, who operates a
service station a short distance
east of Springfield and who also
operates a fleet of logging trucks.
The tire was taken irom ine serv
ice station. It was sold at Cres
well where the officers located it.
