Joint Meeting Held
By Church Groups
SHEDD, Aug. 21. (Special)
The ladies of the United Presby
terian churches of Albany, Oak
ville and Shedd held a joint meet
ing of their missionary societies
Friday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. W. P. Moore of this place.
The potluck dinner was served pic
nic style on the lawn. Mrs. Myr
tle Maxwell was in charge. Mrs.
Moore was assisted as hostess by
Mrs. C. E. Barton, Mrs. Mary Mc
Cormick and Mrs. G. W. Rohr
bough. Mrs. Herbert McDonald,
president of the Shedd society pre
sided over the program which was
given under the shade of a large
locust tree.
The meeting opened with a rec
ognition program at which time
the stajteificers Presbyterial pres
ident, r E..J. Clark, presbyterial
secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Clar
ence Brown and corresponding sec
retary, Mrs. G. W. Rohrbough,
also the local society presidents,
Mrs. Bryant of Albany, Mrs. Lamb
of Oakville and Mrs. Herbert Mc
Donald of Shedd and the speakers
were presented with small flower
tokens. Alice McDonald, Jean
Moore, Mildred Pimm, and Phyllis
Wagner acted as flower girls. Mrs.
L. R. Wilson and Mrs. Grace Co
ney were honored by a short pro
gram of appreciation of their equal
service of 25 years as secretary and
treasurer of the Shedd missionary
stqpty. The main feature of the
meeting was a report of the con
vention of the Women's general
missionary society of North Am
erica given by Mrs. Moore, the
delegate from the Oregon Pres
byterial. She was assisted by Miss
Eleanor Dunlap and Mrs. Marga
ret Vernon who also attended the
convention. The report was well
received and will be an inspiration
to Christian organizations. At the
close of the meeting an announce
ment was made of the homecom
ing which will be held at the
Shedd United Presbyterian church
on Sept. 1. Boyd Thrift of San An
selmo, Cal., will be the speaker.
Rev. W. W. Reid, a former pastor
of the church is expected to be
present. Plans are being made to
entertain guests from a distance
in different homes of the congre
gation. Bible School On a
Rev. A. J. Finkbeiner opened his
daily vacation Bible school Mon
day afternoon. There was a good
attendance and more children are
expected to enter later.
George Blerins went to Port
land the first of the week.
Leroy Starnes made a 'rip to
the Oakville neighborhood Sat
urday morning to bring home a
milk cow which he had purchased
from. Burnell White. The White
family moved to Sweet Home Sat
urday.
Mrs. L. N. Allen Is Improving
slowly from the effects of a fall
several weeks ago. She is able to
walk without the aid of crutches.

RIVER ROAD, Aug. 21. (Spe
cial) Mrs. C. E. Pickett left for
her home in Orville, Cal., after
spending the last few days at the
Carlyle Pickett home. She has
spent the past month visiting rela
tives and friends in Portland and
other Oregon communities.

week.
Jess Nichols stopped Sunday at
the Joe Whisman home, returning
from Medford where he visited
his daughter, Mrs. Hayes and fam
ily. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Spear., of
Indianola, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Bishop of Norwalk. Iowa,
are visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Glenn Harnden. They are rela
tives of Mrs. Harnden.
Walter Dickenson is home from
Bremerton. Wash., where he has
been working the past few months.
Ray Kirchoff and friends left
Monday for San Francisco, where
they will attend the fair and tour
California.
