Garden Club Group
An all time high of 167 paid-up
members In the Eugene Garden
club was reported by the presi
dent, J. F. Reade, at a meeting of
the executive board Wednesday
at the home of the secretary, Mrs.
J. R. Nasholm.
' In line with the aim of the club
to assist with civic projects it was
reported that 200 plants, pentsto
nom rupicola bought by the club,
have been placed on Skinnor butte,
the planting done through the co
operation of the NYA. The Ameri
can Legion has had water, piped
to the area planted and it is the
plan of the Garden club to con
tinue assistance each year in beau
tification of the butte.
A nominating committee includ
ing Dr. A. H. Norton, Mrs. Hubert
Moor and Mrs. Kenneth W. Moore,
was appointed to report to the
April meeting of the Garden club
when the annual election of offi
cers takes place.
A plant exchange will be a fea
ture of the April meeting, the date
to be announced, with Mrs. Fred
Broders and a committee of 20 in
charge.

District Meeting
Planned By Group
Plans for the district meeting
to be held at the armory April 7
were made at the meeting of the
V. F. W. auxiliary this week. Mem
bers from Cottage Grove, Albany,
Corvallis and Lebanon will attend.
Announcement was made at the
meeting that Miss Lois Bowerly of
Mohawk union high school is the
winner of the essay contest with
her paper on "The Benefits of
Democracy. Honorable mention
went to Glenn Snyder, and Betty
Lee Stuart of Eugene high school,
and Shirley Kremmel and Mar
garet Glmpl of St. Mary's school.
Miss Bowerly's essay will be sent
to Portland to compete in the
state contest ,
The auxiliary voted to have a
banner and flag made in Portland
for use at the department conven
tion at Corvallis July 7-10. Plans
were discussed for the nomination
and election of officers on April 2.

Mrs. Ragna Christofferson, who
left Wednesday for an extended
visit of several months with rela
tives and friends in Minnesota,
was honored at a handkerchief
shower Tuesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Fritz Larsen. Those

sive visit at the home of Judge
and Mrs. Oscar T. Richey in Glen-
wpod. The Richey family has just
moved to this district from Tucson,
Arizona, where Judge Richey has
been a judge and practiced law for
41 years.
