Married In South
Announcement was received re
cently by Eugene friends of the
marriage of Orville Thompson,
formerly of Eugene, to Miss Julie
Smith of Phoenix, Arizona.
The wedding was an event of
December 3 at phoenix. The
couple will live in Pasadena, Cal.
Mr. Thompson is a former student
at the University of Oregon and is
a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon
fraternity.

Rules and plans for the second
running of the Callahan Trophy
I chase, to be held Sunday, Febru
ary 25. will be announced. Frank
Bonson, III, is in charge. The
chase was first held two weeks
ago, but loss of several of the sig
nals invalidated the times of con
testants, and they voted to with
hold the trophy and try for it
again.

About forty members of the
Women's League of the First Con
gregational church attended the
meeting held Tuesday at the
church. Mrs. Wilbur Dutton led
devotions. Miss Marilyn Burger
played a cello solo, accompanied
by Mrs. Ivan Ware. Mrs. A. F.
Holmer was in charge of the cur
rent religious highlights. Host
esses were Mrs. Howard R. Tay
lor, Mrs. A. L. Lomax and Mrs.
Roy E. Morse. For the March 19
meeting, Mrs. Charles Shelton will
read an Easter story.

The business meeting which fol
lowed was presided over by Mrs.
Eshom, president.
It was reported that the four
week lunch period previously de
cided upon had just ended. No
action was taken to continue the
project for a longer time. An av
erage of 50 pupils per day were
served with Mrs. Applewhite su
pervising the necessary arrange
ments. It was decided to set aside $5
toward the community library
fund.
Tlan Family Night
The Welfare Circle will hold
its annual "family night" at the
community hall this Wednesday
evening. A potluck supper is to
be served at 6 p. m. There will
also be a program in the eve

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Clark en
tertained with a pinochie party at
their home last week. Guests
present included Mr. and Mrs. H.

Mrs. W. F. Rehwalt and Mrs.
Martin Elam were called to Sher
wood Sunday due to the sudden
death of their sister, Mrs. Anna
Hineck, on that day. Funeral serv
ices were held in Sherwood Tues
day. .

cial) Mrs. Carl Rutherford,

Norkenzie Home Arts club at a

WILLAKENZ1E, Feb. 2 1.
(Special) Willakenzie grange met
in regular session Saturday eve
ning with Master Clarence Hover
in the chair. The hall was decor
ated by Mr. and Mrs. Orville
Rogers. The charter was draped
for Victor Hoare. It was an
nounced that Monday, Feb. 26 was
the date when Willakenzie will be
hosts to the LBne County Pomona
plays with Goshen and Jasper
granges bringing their plays. Re
freshments will be sold following
the plays by members of the Home
Economics club. No charge Is
made for the plays. The ladles of
the Home Economics club request
ed and received permission to re
plenish the dish supply.
Friday night, February 23, a
large group of Willakenzie mem
bers will go to Junction City to
visit that grange and will also
furnish the program for the eve
ning. The recently organized
Young People's Drill Team will
also participate. It was announced
that the March 2 meeting would
be preceded by a potluck supper
to be followed by the program it
7:30 o'clock, at which time the
Davis family of Eugene will give
a musical program. Holly grange
of Linn county will bring a class
of candidates to receive the third
and fourth degrees. The hall will
be decorated by Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Koch. The lecturer's hour,

the grange on May 10, 1913 in the
Coon Range (now Norkenzie)

ped their building and entertained
the Pomona grange, a record,
which Mr. Harlow claims has
never been equalled. Mrs. P. C.
Krogstadt and her son, Harold,
entertained with duets on their
guitars. Mrs. Kingsley conducted
a "quizz" on Oregon history, Re

ing room by Mr. and Mrs. Lewis

Club To Meet
The Willakenzie Thimble club
will meet Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. Frank Harlow.

The Home. Economics club of
Willakenzie grange met recently
for an all-day session at the
grange hall, with a potluck dinner
being served at noon. The main
business for the day was the com
pletion of plans for the dinner to
be served the Eugene Linns club
on Feb. 21 at the grange. The club
quilt was alto put in the frames.
Mrs. Kenneth Kienzle offered her
services as librarian. It was an
nounced that the March meeting
would feature a flower and plant
"swap" to be conducted by Mrs.
Ellis Maharry.

noon at the Osburn hotel. Reports
were given from the various study
groups.
