Cuba Break
On Tariffs
WASHINGTON, Dec. 21. Ml
The United States has lestorcd
tariff reductions on sugar and to
bacco imported from Cuba in ex
change for Cuban concessions on
American exports.
The changes wore effected in an
agreement signed late yesterday by
Secretary Hull and Cuban Am
bassador Martinez Fragn. It sup

John A. Pinkerton
John A. Pinkerton, former op
erator for the Southern Pacific
at McCredie Springs, died Dec.
8 In San Francisco, following an
operation. He was born in Gar
den Grove, la., Feb. 22, 1872, and
moved to Nebraska with his par
ents as a small child. He was
agent for the C. B. and I. railroad
at Marquette, Greeley Center and
Burwell, Neb. He moved to Ore
gon in February, 1912, and was
the first agent for the Southern
Pacific at Timber, Ore. He moved
to Eugene in 1926 and was at
Springfield Junction until It was
closed. He then went to Wicopee,
and from there, to McCredie
Springs, where he had been for
the past three years. He was In
