Remodeling Building
E. Rubenstein is remodeling his
business building on the north side
of Eighth avenue west between
the Sterling furniture store and
the Oregon Settlement association
office. The interior was badly
damaged, by fire several months
ago when the Martin upholstery
shop was burned. At the same
time Mr. Rubenstein is remodeling
the 80 by 80 room facing Olive
street and in the rear of the store
building.

Higinbotham recently attended the
second world assembly on moral
rearmament promoted by the Ox

Reunion Scheduled
The Harlow-Pandy reunion will
be held Sunday on the Coast Fork
of the Willamette river. Members
of the clans are instructed to go
three miles past Goshen and turn
left at the service station to reach
the picnic ground.
Thistles Now Ripe
Canadian thistles are now ripe
and the seeds are easily scattered
by the wind, F. D. Petzold, coun
ty weed control supervisor, said
Saturday. The season's work of
controlling the pest is about com
pleted but there are a few
patches that have not yet been
destroyed, he reported.

Mrs. Ryan Has Operation
Mrs. W. J. Ryan of Eugene is a
patient at Hillside hospital at
Klamath Falls where she under
went an operation for appendicitis
Tuesday. Her condition is reported
to be satisfactory. She is a daugh

erson of Klamath Falls, where she
had been visiting.

Raymond Wicks killed a big
turkey-killing cougar on his place
five miles east of Dorena Thursday
night, it is reported by Frank L.
Kinney, of the Oregon Settlement
association, who was in that local
ity Friday. The animal had killed
a number of turkeys belonging to
Mr. Wicks several night previous.
Logging Company Flies
Articles of incorporation of the
Lane-Linn Logging company of
Eugene have been filed in the
office of the corporation commis
sioner at Salem. The incorpora
tors are Kenneth, Zeta and Elva
Girard and the capital stock is
$5000. The law firm of Harris
and Bryson filed the articles.
Reunion Planned
The annual Zumwalt reunion
will be held at the 7-R ranch of
the Robertson brothers on the Lor
ane highway Sunday, August 20.
This will be an all day affair with
a picnic dinner at noon. All are

"Recipes " Using Squash and
Pumpkin" is the subject for the
week. Lane county is quite a cent
er for the cultivation of these
foods, and many interesting ideas
are expected to come in for the
contest.
Five one-dollar prizes will be
given, one to each of the winners
of the five best recipes chosen by
Ann Chaney and her judging com
mittee. All recipes must be in at the
Register-Guard office by 6 p. m.,
Wednesday, Aug. 16.

A small black and white cocker
spaniel pup has been lost by Mrs.
Donald Young, she reported Sat
urday. The dog was first missed
near Fifth and Olive. Mr. Young

Return from California

weeks' trip through California and
to Mexico. They visited the fair in

School Bonds Sold
The Vaughn school district. No.
66, has sold to the First National
bank of Eugene $2700 worth of the
district bonds, drawing three per
cent interest. The money will be
spent to buy a new school bus.

The annual Lane county poul
trymen's picnic will be held on
the west bank of the river at
Swimmers' Delight three miles
above Goshen Sunday, August 20,
it was announced Saturday.
The Lane County Poultrymen's
association had adopted the policy
of alternating the annual picnic
between some point near Junction
City and the picnic grounds in
general in the vicinity of Eugene.
This year it was to have been held
at Benton-Lane park north of
Junction City and the committee
had arranged for the grounds, but
there was some mixup in the dates
and the park was not available. It
was at the suggestion of the poul
trymen in the vicinity of Junction
City that it be held at Swimmers'
Delight.
The picnic will start with a
basket dinner promptly at 12:30 p.
m. Ice cream, coffee, sugar and
cream will be furnished without
charge by the poultrymen's as
sociation. Following the dinner
there will be short addresses by L. j
W. Brookshier, manager of the j
Eugene branch of Swift and com- !
pany; C. W. Norton, manager of
the Northwest Poultry and Dairy
Products company; G. C. Kceney,
manager of the Pacific Cooperative
Poultry Producers; H. E. Cosby, I

marketing oranizations will speak
on market situations and outlook
and the speakers from the college
will report on the World's Poul

To Take Part In Tour
Several Lane county nut grow
ers are planning to take part In
the annual western Oregon nut
growers' tour to be held August
16 and 17. Fred E. Chambers of
Eugene is president of the Western
Nut Growers' association, spon
soring the tour.
The growers will meet at the
courthouse at Hillsboro at 9:30 a.
m. on the first day and visit sev
eral farms in that locality. They
will have lunch at Scholls, served
by the Ladies' Aid of that place,
and the tour will continue at 1:30.
On the 17th the growers will
meet at Aumsville, Marlon county,'
and visit two orchards, having
lunch at noon In Salem. The tour
will be resumed at 1:30. The or
chard of United States Senator
McNary will be one of the places
to be visited that afternoon.
