New York Markets
By 1 VICTOR EUBANK
NEW YORK, June . 21 lAPl Buying
was concentrated in a few stocks, rais
ing them, as much as 2 points, while
the market generally prolonged its draft
today.
What some brokers described as
"long pull" buying in anticipation of
business improvement was .translated
into plus signs for a number of spe
cialties. American Can and Continental spurt
ed -more than a point as the canning
stocks drew attention on favorable crop
reports. Some merchandise shares were
In demand, notably J. C Penney. Cel
ancsc and Public Service of New Jer
sey were other outstanding gainers.
But minor losses were the rule In
the usual speculative favorites. Includ
ing U. S. Steel, Bethlehem, Kennecott
and U. S. Rubber, during the greater
part of the leisurely dealings. Motor
shares stiffened toward the last, eras
ing earlier losses .in. General Motors.
Trading ran at about the :same pace
as in the previous session, approximat
ing 450,000 shares.
While traders In most fields were
developments at home and abroad, a
recovery trend again was traced in cor-
dlsposed to mark time awaiting for
corporate bonds.
