At Cottage Grove
Elton Buck of Grants Pass has
arrived in Cottage Grove to be
employed by the Standard Oil
company at its station there. He
has been attending a Standard
service station school in Eugene for
the past ten days.
In Vancouver
Mrs. Wallace Hanna relumed to
her home in Vancouver, Wash.,
Friday, after being called to Eu
gene to attend the funeral of her
brother-in-law, Howard A. Hall.
She was accompanied north by her
mother, Mrs. C. S. Williams, her
sister, Mrs. Hall, and Mrs. Hall's
two sons, Howard and Williams
Hall. They will be there over the
week-end, returning Monday, Mrs.
Hanna to return to Eugene to
spend next week here.
Observe Rural Life Sunday
Sunday, May 21, has been des
ignated by the Council of Churches
at Rural Life Sunday, and a com
munication from H. C. Seymour,
state club leader, has urged that
all 4-H club members participate
in church activities, on that day.
Letters have been sent to the min
isters of the rural churches in the
state, urging them to include this
in their program.
Sheriff at Klamath
Sheriff C. A. Swarts was at
Klamath Falls Friday, having gone
after Varney Baker, arrested on a
Lane county warrant, charging
him with lewd cohabitation; He
was expected to return Friday evening.
Bass Shown
Arthur Hendershott and Cliff
Baird caught a good string of bass
in a lake north of Junction City
Thursday. Six of them were dis
played at the Hendershott store
Friday. The largest weighed three
and a half pounds and the smallest
one and a half.

Paul D. Drim, 45, former Eugene
real estate broker, died instantly
at about 10:30 Friday morning
when he collapsed on the street
in front of I ho local telephone of
fice, according to Deputy Coroner
Walter Kropp.
Mr. Drum, a World war veteran,
had been ill and was traveling by
bus to Portland, where he intended
to take treatment at the Veterans'
hospital. His home address is 1466
Fifteenth avenue east. He is sur
vived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel
Drum; his mother, Mrs. Martha
Drum, both of Eugene, and a
brother, Adelbert Drum, of Super
ior, Wis. ...

(Special) Winnifred Adele Cooley
died Thursday morning at the
family home west of Yoncalla. She
is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee
W. Cooley and was born at Jeffer
son Feb. 21, 1924. She has been
an invalid all her life. She is sur
vived by her parents and grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Aiken
of Cottage Grove and Mr. and
Mrs. H. W. Cooley of Albany. The
family have resided at Yoncalla
the past five years and formerly
resided in Cottage Grove.
Funeral services will be held in
Cottage Grove at Mills chapel Sat
urday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. E.

Men Arrested For
Breaking Into Car
Walter Donald Long and Myron
Little, both of Cottage Grove, were
in the county jail Friday after
noon, facing a charge of breaking
into an automobile and stealing a
shotgun. The arrest was made by
the state police.
Forrest Joy Lovett of Albany
was arrested Thursday evening on
a charge of passing bad checks.
State police, who arrested him,
said he put out several checks in
Eugene.

A bill to reimburse Indians of
six western reservations for tribal
funds spent on irrigation systems
was approved yesterday by the
house Indian affairs committee. It
included an $80,000 payment to the
