To Take Vacations
Jim Christensen, employe of

a two-weeks' trip to Los An

Salem for one week. Glenn Hall,
also an employe of the bakery,
and Mrs. Hall have recently re
turned from two weeks in east
ern Oregon.
Big Rainbow Caught
Roy E. Morse, Eugene merch
ant, caught an unusually large
rainbow trout in the McKenzie
above Vida Saturday. The fish
weighed three pounds and 13
ounces. In company with H. L.
Edmunds, with Wood Hindman
as boatman, he was fishing above
Vida when the catch was made.
Judge Goes to Coast
County Judge N. E. Glass went
to Florence Saturday afernoon,
planning to attend the meeting of
the Siuslaw Rod and Gun club
at Whoahink lake in the evening
and will come back as far as
Camp Lane Sunday to attend the

Douglas Castle, who was injured
fatally in a logging accident Fri
day afternoon, are to be held
Monday at 2 p. m. at Mills chapel,
Rev. J. A. Smith officiating.
Burial will be at the Brumbaugh
cemetery.
Mr. Castle was born Nov. 28,
1917, nt Cottage Grove. He was
married Oct. 17. 1936, to Erma
Meyers in Eugene.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs.

Knots of Trees Form
Basis of Hobby
Knots In trees may just be
knots to most people, but to
Stephen M. Osborn, of route 1,
Junction City, they are an in
teresting hobby. A wvoi'.cuitor by
trade, Mr. Osborn collects the
knots, and carves them into un
usual shapes.
One of the oddest in his col
lection is a knot of hazel bush
I wood, which is in the shape of
a ham! with five almost perfect
fingers Mr. Osborn has eelcd
away the bark, and has made In
dentations for fingernails. Each
finger is about two inches long,
the thumb being somewhat short
er ami thicker, as in a human
hand.
A large oak knot about nine
inches across, with the middle
hollowed out, makes a natural
dipper. A fir knot In the shape
of a head was made into a face
with only a few touches, includ
ing ears carved on each side.
