Into the ever-changing cal
dron of the world there come
at all timet the mbtle, gentle
influence of Woman! Mysteri
ous, elusive, glamorous! Also
spiritual, nun-like and cruel!
She is the enigma of earthly
existence, representing as she
does the noblest as well as
the basest emotions of man.
Either she is a guiding light,
leading men toward God, or
she is a siren luring all who pass
to destruction by her melody
of song. Oddly enough, the
same harmonious voice is often
attuned to the chords of lulla
bies, crooning babes to pleasant
sleep and carefree dreams.
But dance halls know her,
too, and stock exchanges, as
well as other marts of trade.
She may be the shrew who bar
gains in pennies, or the Portia
who pleads with talent rare for
the heart of man. One sees her,
head softly haloed by lustrous
hair, as a secretary in a manu
facturing plant, just as often
as one sees her sitting by the
side of a cradle or hospital bed.
There is no answer to her
moods or her influence, but
always, cither with tenderness,
impudence, nonchalance, verve
or cruelty, she wields power
the ages have never been able
to combat, for the reason that
men always have end always
will listen to her alluring voice
and be guided thereby!
She is the mother of men,
and should she decide there
will be no more wars, not all
the kingdoms of the earth could
plunge the world into darkness
or bloodshed. What she de
cides, however, ha never been
foretold, nor will it ever be
known, until she herself reveal;,
it. She does not know today
what she will do tomorrow, be
cause she is
Woman, the Mysterioua.
