Reign at Phi Beta's "Conti
nental Night"

A COSMOPOLITAN flsvor to Eu
gene'e entertainment progrsm will
be added to the assortment of the
year's outstanding parties when the
guests at the Phi Beta "Continental
Night" affair are taken aboard the
"SS Phi Beta" for a voyage to far
ports of call.
All this will take place next Satur
day night, February 27, at the Osburn
hotel starting at eight-thirty o'clock.
Captain of the ehip, who will pilot
the guesta to the European ports,
(where a floor show will represent
each place of call) will be Crosby
Owens serving as master of cere
monies. His "First Mate" will be Ken
neth Shumaker.
A group of distinguished guests
will be aboard the ship for ita eve
ning' voyage, and much fun will
be added to the evening for the guests
to guess the identity of the famous
people being impersonated.
Many of Eugene's outstanding mu
sicians will be featured when the
S. S. Thi Beta stops for her port
of calls, inducing Jane Thacher, pian
ist; Hall Young, tenor, and Fay Knox,
dancer. ,
There will be chorus dancing by
dancers trained by Mrs. Knox and
among the variety of acts planned
will be a Spanish tango, an Irish
dance, a group of Viennese waltzers,
including Mr. and Mrs. Carlton E.
Spencer, Mr. nnd Mrs. George Hop
kins, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel D. Gage,
Jr., Mr. nnd Mrs. Rogers Kimber
ling, and Mr. and Mrs. William U.
East.
Mrs. L. C. Schworing is general
chairman of arrangements for the
party and Mrs. M. N. Miktilak is pro
gram chairman. Mrs. C. D. Byrne Is
heading the ticket sale. Others on the
committee are Mrs. William M. Tug
man, Theresa Kelly, and Mrs. Eyler
Brown.
Supper will be served at eleven o'
clock, but there is to be no "ordinary
American" food on the menu. Under
the direction of Mrs. Eyler Brown,
foreign concoctions are being pre
pared to top off the evening in a true
cosmopolitan fashion.

The Phi Beta alumnae and associ
ates are sponsoring the affair, as

Start Spring
Activities
VflOST cheerful news of the week Is
that the Country Club women will
resume their golfing activities soon,
for activity among the golfers is a
sure harbinger of spring.
Committee for the 1037 season
have been named by the chairman
of women's activities at the Country
club, Mrs. David B. Evans, and a
meeting of the group was held Wed
nesday of the past week to plan the
"opening" of the season.
The first meeting will be the tour
nament on the afternoon of March 8.
A luncheon at the clubhouse at twelve
