In preparing this greet production,
whose csst is studded with auch lumi
naries of the stsge and film world aa
Frank Morgan, Fannie Brice, Virginia
Bruce, Reginald Owen, Ray Bolger,
Nat Pendleton and Harriet Hoctor,
Metro-Goldwyn-Msyer duplicated the
profligacy of Ziegfeld himself, using
sixteen reels and 15,300 toot of film.
Although "The Great Zierfeld" is
not merely another motion picture
rerue, it has many and elaborate tou
sles! incidents which form the hack-
ground for the story, give authenticity
to tne plot and . recreate the- atmo
sphere of the show world. The story
was suggested by Ziegfeld's career,
his rivalries, successes and failures.
Special emphasis la placed on the
fact also that the character of Zleg-
leid is not intended aa an accurate
historical etudy. It has been made.
portly fictional, consistent wth the
man himself, but consistent also with
the spacious and glamorous legend
that surrounded him.
As a natural part of the plot the
picture introduces spectacular musical
interludes of the type which Ziegfeld
made famous on Broadway. The sing
ing and dancing Is said to present
the last word in entertainment,
every role being filled by the artist
top in his particular field.

The screen story relates the adven
ture of William Powell, portraying
a butler in the delightfully diss? Bui'
lock family. One daughter, played
by Carole Lombard, falls in love with
him. Her sister tries to have Mm
laUtd. The maid falls in lore with
him, too. The mother likes him, bat
she hss a parlor pet of her own.
The fun gets faster and more fur
ions every aecond, with laughs burst-

Gall Patrick, Jean JJixon, Eugene
Pallette, Alan Mowbray, Mischa Auer

the novel of the same name, written
Ty the master of modern comedy,
Eric Hatch. The screen play Is the
work of this brilliant humorist and

all unconsciously proves himself "Dy
namite," is unfolded in the Paramount
picture "Lady Be Careful," which
opens Wednesday at the McDonald
theatre.
The film features Lew Ayres as the
sailor whose nickname is switched
from "Dud" to "Dynamite" and Mary
Carlisle as a Panama City dancer who
is the cause of it all Larry Crabbe
appears as a Marine, boastful of his
many conquests, who finds himself
outdone by the modest Ayres.
Benny Bsker, of radio fame, aids
in packing the yarn with laughs.
Baker, himself formerly a radio stooge
for Lou Holts, has a stooge In the
picture, in the person of Joe "Frank
enstein" Plosld, plsttcr-faced comic.
On the same program is "Bengal
Tiger," featuring Barton MacLane,
June Travis, and Warren Hull. The
picture la an exciting etory of circus
life, with plenty of lions and tigers to
give it added spice.
