Activities at the Eugene aummer
playgrounds will beat a standstill over
tin- Fourth of July holiday, with the
exception of the Skinner Butte park
and swimming pool, annouuced Gilbert
Sprague, director.
Attendants will be at the Skinner
Butte pool from 7 p. m. to dark and
supervision of the playground will also
be made.
Monday, July 6, will see an In
creased activity at the playgrounds
and plans are underway for the open
ing of the swimming clssses. The first
two weeks classes, starting Monday,
will ba for girla and woman and will
be conducted each morning during
that period, except Bundaya. from 10
a. m. to 12 noon. Classe8 will be held
for the various age levels and swim
ming abilities, such as classes for non
swimmers, beginning swimmers and
advanced swimmers. The classes will
be under the supervision of Marion
Weitz, Red Cross life saving exam
iner, assisted by Ieonard Srroggin,
also an examiner, and James Smith, a
Bed Cross senior lifesaver.
Mr. Sprague announcea that the
handicraft classes working on kites
are progressing well, and next week
will be the local kite tryouts at the
varioua playgrounds.
Also starting Monday, July 8, will
lie beginning clasaea re pine needle
basketry, leather tooling, soap carving
and clay modeling.
July 10 is the data announced for
the all city ping-pong tournament
which will be held at the Lincoln school
house at 2 p. m. and thia week the
local ping-pung play is being held. All
interested In the tournsment are to
contact the playground in their neigh
borhood, aald Mr. Sprague.
