HARRISBURG, June 21 (Spe
cial) Notices have been posted for
a special school election to be held
July 15, The union high school dis
trict and the grade school district
hoards are planning to build a gymna
slum and it will be necessnry for the
two districts to go through some le
gal form whereby they can own the
building jointly.
The two boards met last night and
although details have not been settled
the plans at present are for a ion
crete gymnnsium, the cost estimnted
at about $25,000. Of this sum the two
districts expect to pay $15,000 and to
get a PWA grant for the balance.-The
opinion of the boards was that the
high school district should stand 60
per cent of the expense and the grade
school district 40 per cent.
It is proposed to build the gymnas
lum connecting with the present
school building on the south. In such
a manner that If the districts wish to
build new school houses later they can
bo added to either end of the gymna
sium.
For the first time In several years
the union high school election, which
will be held Monday, will pass withou
an argument over the ballot. The last
legislature passed a law amending the
high school election laws, which pro
vides that a voter may write in the
name of a person other than that
printed on the ballot, and as the law
was interpreted the voter had to
choose from them and could not write
In any other. This has always caused
considerable argument nnd sometimes
no little friction, becnuso It is the
exact opposite of all other election
lows.
The only name to appear on the
ballot at this coining election wilt be
Clinton Morse. A petition was clr
dilated to put tho name of J. W
Bowers on the ballot but it was learn
ed thnt he resides in n school district
which already has a director on the
board.
