Seattle's rude reception of Los An
geles last week seems to have shat
tered the fielding precision the An
gels displnyed in running away with
the first half Coast league crown,
Hollywood took Its second game of
the week from the champions last
night 7-6 as the Angel bobbles let in
three runs. Holding a 5-3 lead going
into the eighth, the Lelivclt men mis
handled the kail enough to give the
Stars the game.
The defeat dropped the Angels into
a third plnce tie with the Missions
and Seattle. The Reds upset San
Francisco 5-1 behind Wayne Osborne's
7-hit pitching, while the Indians stop
ped Portland 8-5 as Bob Fitike, rook
ie hurler from the University of Idaho,
won bis first game of the year. He
was touched for ten blows.
Bill Henderson, starting Portland
pitcher, was taken to a hospital for
examination after being hit by one of
Fitske's pitched balls in the seventh.
Osborne's victory was his third in
six days.
Two veteran righthanders provided
the real mound thrills of the day as
Lou McEroy of Oakland bested Lou
Koupnl of Sacramento 1-0. McEvoy
gave Bix hits, Kotipal only five.
Neither pitcher issued a base on balls.
Ernie Kelly's double in the first in
ning, the game's only extra base hit,
led to the Oakland run.
BONDS ARE READY
SALEM, July 17. W) The $1,

construction work on the five Oregon
coast bridge projects, will be mailed

GOP To Hold State
Wide Convention In
Eugene On July 28

Attesting revived interest in party
politics in Oregon, Brltt Nedry today
announced a state-wide convention
would be held July 28 at Eugene to
permanently organize the Oregon Re
publican club. Nedry is temporary
president of the club.
The genernl chairman of the com
mittee on arrangements Is E. G.
Boehnke of Eugene, president of the
Lane county chapter.
A Portland caravan to Eugene will
stop at Corvallis for a recoption by
the Benton county chapter of which
Burton Hutton, state treasurer of
the club, is chairman.
The convention at Eugene will be
devoted to business sessions during
the day, interrupted by a luncheon.
An outstauding speaker will be se
lected to address the group at a ban
quet in the evening.

Van Winkle Upholds
State Racing Law
SALEM, July 13. OP) The Ore
gon racing commission act does not
violate any provisions of the Oregon
constitution prohibiting lotteries and
the sale of lottery tickets. Attorney
Genernl I. H. Van Winkle held ln
an opinion hnnded down today.
The opinion held further that the
legislature may adopt any kind of
policy not forbidden in the constitu
tion, and the legislature had seen fit
to enact the law expressly authoris
ing mutual betting and wagering In
connection with horse and dog rac
ing. The opinion wns requested by
Lotus L. Langley, district attorney
of Multnomah county. .

Booker, San Jose negro, for the 147
pound title. The decision wns awarded
to Spillers by a 2 to 1 rote of the
judges.
For the full limit of 5 two-minute
rounds the two welterweights faced
each other and fired awny, with first
one fighter and rben the other being
cheered on by the excited crowd. The
judges' decisioin was popular with
the crowd.
Johnny Martin, 112-pound champion
from the United States Indian school
at Phoenix, Ariz., ran his knockout
string to 10 straight in winning the
1034 title with a second-round knock
out over James Camcrillo of Los An
genes. An estimated crowd of 6000 per
sons saw the finnl round mntches.
