Mrs. Nancy J. Goff
COTTAGE GROVE, July 13.
(Special) Mrs. Nancy J. Goff died
here Thursday, July 12, at the age'of
TO years. She was born at Flat Hock,
111., June 10, 1S35, and was the widow
of Harvey J. Goff, who died five years
ago. She was married Nov. 13, 1887.
She was a member of the Methodist
church.
Mrs. Goff was the mother of six
children, three of whom as follows
are living: Otto H. Goff of Salem,
Clifford C. Goff of Seattle, and Mrs.
James Tedforof Cottage Grove.
The funeral will be held at the Mill
chapel in Cottage Grove Snturday at
U:30 a. m. Kev. M. A. Groves will
conduct the services.

stir into hot cream. Continue stirring
until mixture thickens slightly. Bent
egR yolks, add sujrar and snlt. Dilute
with little of hot mixture. Stir Into the
rest and continue to cook until it coats
the spoon. Cool, add vnnilln and
freeze. This mny be varied by adding
crushed Swedish mints when the mix
ture is only partly frozen. Add enough
red coloring to tint a faint pink, and
flavor with peppermint. Omit sugar
from the recipe when making pepper

Tuttl Fruttl Ice Cream
This delicious ice cream for the
electric refrigerator Is rery inexpen
sire for it is made with evaporated
milk instead of whipping cream, but
no one would suspect its economy. It
requires:
1 small can of evaporated mUk
(boiled previously and chilled)
1 cupful of crushed strawberriei,
with some of juice drained off
1 ripe peach, peeled, pitted and
crushed.

apple 1 banana, mashed
3-4 cupful of sugar
H cupful of chopped nuts, If de
sired Few grains of salt.
To prepare the milk for whipping,
place the unopened can in a pnn of
cold water to cover, and boil for 5
minutes. Cool and chill thoroughly.
Mixe the crushed fruits with the
sugar, stirring until it Is thoroughly
dissolved. Tour the chilled milk into
a very cold bowl, and whip with a
rotary beater ns for whipped cream.
Add the salt, and fold in the fruits,
blending well. Pour into tray of re
frigerator and freeze; when half
frozen, stir in the chopped nuts. If
they are desired. This Ice cream does
not need to be stirred while freezing
We consider it the best of all the

Apricot or Peach Moumo
1 cup double cream
1 cup fruit juice
6 tablespoons sugar
2 egg whites
Pinch of salt
Whip cream, peel peaches and rub
through a coarse strainer to make 1
cup of pulp, add the sugar, fold with
cream, add the egg whitea which have
been beaten with salt, pour into tray
and freeze. This recipe does not need

Banana let Cream
2 cupi milk
2 levl tablespoons cornstarch
Few grains salt
1-3 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
16 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup cream
2 ripe baunnas.
Scald milk. Mix cornstarch with su
gar, snlt nnd beaten egg yolk. Moisten
with small amount of the scalded milk
and add mixture to milk. Cook ten
minutes, stirring constantly until
thickened. Cool, add vanilla, turn into
refrigerator tray and freeze to mush.
Place In bowl and bent well with ro
tary egg-beater. Slice bananas and put
through coarse siere. Add banana pulp
to custard mixture and fold in whip
ped cream. Return to chilling unit and
freeze. This makes six generous serv
ings. If a sweeter Ice cream is de

Brarilian lee Cream
4 cups sugar
4 lemons
4 oranges
4 bananas
4 cups cream
4 cups milk.
To the juice of the lemons and or
anges, add the sugnr, stir until
the sugnr is nearly dissolved, then
add the sliced bnnnnas, the crenm
and then the milk Inst. Freeze, re
move paddle and pnek to ripen. Ex

Cooked Vanilla Ice Cream
1 cup milk
3 eggs
3-4 cup sugar
1-S teaspoon salt
1 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup whipped cream.
Mnke a custard of egg yolks, milk
nnd sugnr. Add beaten egg whites
and vanilla. Chill then add whipped
cream.
Put into freezing trays and turn
temperature regulntor to cold. Stir
twice during freezing process.
When frozen, move regulator to
normal position nnd hold. A pleasant
change from plain ice cream may be
made by reducing amount of sugar by
H cup. and adding 4 CUP '

Grape Juice Sherbet
1 bottle grape juice
teaspoon salt
1 cup sugnr
4 tablespoons lemon juice
t cup crenm.
Roil together half the grape juice
with salt and sugnr, for 2 minutes.
Cool nnd add the rest of the grrtpe
juice and the lemon juice. Freeze
slowly until partly frozen then add
the crenm. Stir well nnd finish freez
ing. Pnck at least 1 hour. Anna

Mac M. McLean of Seattle, formerly
of Kimene.
Mclean am) a party of fire were
about 10 miles at sen off Putret
Sound in a 6.1-foot boat, the Sea
kist, a few days ago wben the motor
backfired, settintr fire to the boat.
The flames vpread ao rapidly that
there was nothing to do but take to
small boats without being tle to
save anything from the boat. All
were clear within four minutes of the
time the fire started.
Details were omitted In the letter
but the bull of the Seakist, which is
owned by Captain Robert Lee of
Seattle, was saved.

cial) Hereafter anlaries of city em
ployes and operating expenses of the
city will be paid in warrants instead
of cash, it was decided by the coun
cil this week. All cash will be ap
plied to the retirement of warrants,
the oldest ones out and ijrnwing in
