Thursday over the absence of Mr. and
Mrs. Art Pierce of Portland from
their camp on the south fork of the
McKenzie seven miles up from Bel
knap bridge, P. A. Thompson, super
visor of the Willamette forest, said.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce had been at
the camp since Thnrsday and were
last seen Friday. Wednesday Smith
Taylor, ranger at McKenzie Bridge,
found the camp In good order and
their car there but the couple was
nowhere to be seen. Mr. Thompson
said that It Is unite likely Mt. andU
Mrs. Pierce have gone to another!
camp. Their neighbors b Portland
said that they had often left their
main camp and taken tripe into the
mountains for several days at time.
If Mr. and Mra. Pierce remain away

The delegates from four states
stopped on their return at Pendleton
to attend a hearing on the upper Co
lumbia and Snake river development,
especially as affecting the Umatilla
Rapids. Representatives from four
states were enthusiastic for the devel
opment of water transportation as a
means of lowering rates on produce
from farms and mills, and mines.
On the return trip the advisory
boards held an extended round table
discussion on a regioual plan for the
Pacific northwest, including develop
ment of water transportation, coordi
nation of transportation agencies, de
velopment of power, irrigation, city
planning and a variety of social prob
lems. A tentative regional nlan pre
pared by Marshall N. Dana, head of
the organization for thia region, was
the basis for discussion. An assembly
of leadera. from Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Montana will hold a confer
ence in the near future to discuss a
regional plan and ita relation to the
public works program, Dr. Gilbert
said. .

Observers have noted a marked les
soning of the tension between the two
nations within the last six months,
and American recognition might be a
strong factor towards a sound understanding.

Thursday on account of a rise in the
stream, due to recent rains. Gravel
was being obtained from a bar be
low the Stafford bridge but the water
egatt to cover it and the crew moved
to the Culver place where the gravel
is higher out of the water.
The road Is elng resurfaced where
it had become rough from freezing
weather last year. These sections
will be oiled next year.

value from $20,580 to $17,510. Col
onies of bees Increased in number
from 219 to 279 but the value de
creased from $515 to $420.
Value of share of stock showed
a decrease from $960 to $300.
Lee Divorce Case
Being Heard Here
The divorce case of Ella Lee
against Harold L. Lee Is being heard
in circuit court before Judge B. L.
Eddy of Roseburg. who was asked
by Judge G. F, Skipworth to hear
the ease.
Mrs. Lee filed suit against her
husband for separation on the ground
of cruel and inhuman treatment and
Mr. Lee contested. The case was
atarted Wednesday morning and was
still being heard Thursday afternoon.
