. NO "NOBODY!"
Disappointing to Charlea Brunl,
a Hartford, conn., janitor, was
tha marralge of his 19-year-old
daughtar, Ida, to a "nobody" In
stead of to "some nice Italian
boy with a good paying" fruit store
or lea truck." Tha "nobody," Noel
I. Elllcott (above), who gave up
a technical education In ' Detroit

proved to be the son of the Rajah

and nephew of Lady Wiley of

beans from the receiving room, on
through the machine snippers . mid
stringers and the sorting and grad
ing processes,' followed then by the
several processes of getting the
beans into the washers, the cons, and
the cookers. Beets are done a bit
differently, of course, but have just
as complex and rapid a procedure in
getting into their cans.

Cannery Saturday
Anwar Shallab, student at the Uni

of the- Eugene Fruit Growers' asso

is studying the fruit product indus

ing cannery establishments of the
nation and following a trip to Chi
cago will return fo the west coast
ft- several months longer stay.
In Syria, most of the fruit is made
into paste which is then dried and
eaten, he said.
Mr. Shallah plans to return to his
cor.r.t. and engage in the dried fruit
business. .
Ho was very much Impreessed with
the varied types of fruits and vege
tables handled at the Eugene can
nery and in the great amounts of
each. He was particularly interested
Saturday in the processes of handling
the green beans and beets which are
on in full force at the cannery now.
LOOSE IN COUNTY
Three hundred and fifty Chinese
pheasants from the state game farm
north of Eugene were liberated In
different parte of the county Friday
and they are expected to be just right
for hunting when the season opens
in the fall. They are now three
.fourths grown and by the time the
hunting season begins they will be in
their prime, keepers of the farm stnte.
Some of the . birds were libernted
nlong the Amazon slough west of Eu
gene, ' some in the Dnnebo section,
some -west of Junction City, others
on the Braes southwest of Eugene, a
small flock near Goshen, one at Dex
tr, one at Pleasant Hill and one
north of Coburg.
This Is the second liberation of the
birds this summer, another lot of 300
having been turned loose earlier. Five
hundred were sent from here to Doug
Ins county a short time ago. George
McCorrigan and Henry Mongol of the
state game department had charge of
the liberation of the pheasants.
