tinues to be reflected in the loca
rade. Much similar situation is
shown at practically all Pacific
slope points. Some late decreases in
eastern churning Is indicated.
Demand for butter continues to
gain and Is now reported at tuny

to the late cut in the price. Two
hit butler in some of the leading
retail shone annears a very popular

Very small supplies of live chickens
are reaching the local trade but
practically none appear wanted at
the moment. Prices continue weak

ing more.
There is a good local demand for
turkeys but little change Is shown
in prices, lkiyers are generally offer
ing 10 to 20c lb. for fancy birds.
Home demand for Immediate con
sumption is good at tho low price.
Columbia river smelt schools are
badly scaterted. The high water and
drift wood are blamed. The fish
are said to be swimming mostly in
the brush along the shoro. Priced
nominally a nickel a pound.
Run of steelhend solmon apeors
about over in the Columbia and the
coast streams are closed. Fresh
Alaska kings are arriving and sell
ing 25c lb. with head on. Cralia
are scarce with orders unfilled.

ed at Willamette valley nnints. Busi.
ness in carload lots continues $3.50
sack net. tn growers. Most growers
are still unwilling to accept price
tenders.
On account of superior quality, the
movement of local hothouso rhu
borh is better than the sumner stock
on the Portland market. Price cut
ting has practically eliminoted profits
or handlers.
Lettuce market Is down another
quarter, and weaker.
Tomatoes are very slow for Mexi
cans on account of the price. Hot
house stock Is slow but apparently
sternly.
Slow demand showing for hot
house ouenmliers. Prices nominal.
Artichokes are steady to a trifle
easier at a spread of 00c to $1.20
according to sire.
Venl market appears a trifle
easier In spots but genernl prices
are unchanged. Hogs steady and
lambs firm.

mountain stock underselling coast

Mrs. Wolford was Miss Eleanor Nix

Hugh Smith, came homo from Port
land this week nnd will stay with his
parents until the first of February
when the sawmill where he works

Aid society met. in the church Wed
nesday and pieced a quilt. They or
ganized into two sets ench set headed
by a captain. Mrs. T M. Boyd is
captain of one sot and Mrs. James
Powell the other. Bach side will try
to get new members, hove the mem
liers dues paid, and make points. The
society will quilt at their next meet
ing next Wednesday.
A number of members of the Cot
tage Grove Rebekahs went to Eugene
Wednesday night to visit the Eugene
lodge.
Mrs. Claude II. Kime will go to
Albany Thursday to visit her brother
Cliet Wheeler.
Miss Leetha Martin of Dayton is
visiting her cousin, Mrs. Hugh Craw
