IN EUGENE GETS
Bnyinp of Chrlstmai tiirlify for the
Eugene market wns sotting underway
Monday with a variety of prices Quot
ed. While some prices Riven wore up
to ttio past week's lovels, the major
ity was lower, indicating a general
lower market for the holiday week.
One dealer, too, said the Portland
market was pretty well stocked up.
Kiving little outlet from here for
there, and that the biff supplies here
would naturally briny lower prices.
In a few places No. 1 birds were
still quoted st 24 and 5 cents. Others
however, listed No. 1 young hens at
'23 cents and No. 1 turns at 20 cents.
Several of the retail meat shops re
ported they would not have much in
formation on turkey prices until late
afternoon on Tuesday. Prices gen
erally rnn from IS to 21c on good
birds Monday.
Orders , so far for the Christmas
trade are coming in fairly well, two
of tlio meat shops reported Monday.
Indications were for a SO to 32 rent
retail market for the turkeys on No. 1
grades, although some said they may
be as low as 28 to 30 cents.
All poultry showed no change Mon
day for holiday buying.
None of ibe other mark eta had any
changes to report Monday, butter,
butterfur, eggs, grains, and livestock
all being at. the week-end prices.

PORTLAND BUTTER
15
PORTLAND. Ore.. Dec. 21. (U.R)
There continues to be reflected a
weaker tone in the butter market
locally which ia more or lesa a pic
ture of the general American trade.
Increase output is reported in the
local field. Some recessions are noted.
Willi much of the surplus milk be
ing turned into butterfat channels
the local creamery industry is suf
fering from nn overplus of offer
ings at the movement. This has re
sulted in a further recession of lc in
the buying prioo almost genernlly.
There wna no change openly made
In the price of egss for the week's
opening but some shading is indicated.
Undertone of the mnrket appears
fractionally easier and some are fore
casting lower prices.
Market for live chickens is a very
sad affair here with very little de
mand in sight at the moment. Previ
ous low buying prices are continued
with the trade not at all inclined to
rush purchases.
Market appears well stocked with
dressed geeso which are selling
mostly around 18e lb. Ducks are in
better supply In spots with ths best
dressed at 20c generally.
Some fancy cauliflower out of the
Roseburg section is being received
in the Portland mnrket. Aa the qual
ity is excellent considering the sea
son, salea are generally being made
around $1.50 crate for No. 1.
First carload of Mexican tomatoes
of the aeaaon has arrived in Port
land. As the trade is furnished for
good stuff, the supply Is meeting
with favor. Hothouse slorit is espe
cially very scarce. Mexican toma
toes pay a duly of 8c Ih.
First mixed csrload of Texas veg
etables has been received by the trsde
here. The stock consisted of egg'
plsnt selling around 15c, green beans
$5 bu. hsmper and peppers 20c lb.
Florida tangerines are arriving,
are of good quality and priced around
SI 85 hii. hsmner.
There Is a smaller demand for
Japanese orangea owing to the rather
high price.
Potato trade Is dragging with prices
unchanged.
Country killed lamb Is In good do
mnnd.
Demand for hogs Is easier and the
nr ce lower.
Dressed calf market Is Inclined to
show a steady tone at a uickel for
hest.
Demand for apples Is lsgglng with
a lack of snap by distributing liner
esta.
