Local Pears Coming in;
Stock Market Recovers
The locnl Bartlott pears are coralns
on the market this week. They are a
bit green but will anon ripen for use.
They ar quoted at $1 a bushel, buying
prire.
Wheat la quoted a bit hlsher here,
both the white and red being boosted
a cent, the white to 47 cents and the
red to 45 cents. Grains are coming1 in
slowly. The harvest season is more
than half over in this section but the
farmers are not hauling in much yet
because during the harvest time most
farmers are buy helping each other
out. However, some are holding their
grains for better prices, it is said.
Ejfgs, poultry, livestock, butter and
butterfnt were all unchanged from
Wednesday.
Rerurmln onions from local prowers
are beginning to come in, quoted at 4
and 5 cents a pound.
Corn continues very plentiful, listed
still at 10 cents a dozen ears.
Summer squish is also very plenti
ful as are green peppers. Most all the
loral prices on vegetables held Thurs

Some of the first Bartlctt pears
were In. selling at $1.10 a box.
Bermuda onions are also making
their appearance, selling at 7 cents a
pound, four pounds for 23 centa.
The first of the yellow pear
tomatoes are on the market, selling
at 6 cents a pound. Stall 4S has
them.
The bluo plums, so common In
these parts, are beginning to come
in. Various kinds of plums and
prunes both are on the market now.
Many are a bit hard for eating but
they are fine for cooking.
A few green peas are still noted
on the market.
. Green peppera are much more
plentiful, unchanged In price at 8
cents a pound, two for 15 cents.

covery today, finishing with general
advances of about a point.
Firming of the oil shares on the
signing of a conservation bill In Texas
expected to cut the flood of oil from
the great East Texas pool by about 20
per cent, started an advance which
spread through moat of the list, af
fecting merchandising food and mis
cellaneous Issues notably. Ralls also
recovered In spots, on ordering of the
rernlar dividend by tnlon Pacific.
The advance faltered considerably
during the afternoon, and final prices
were generally somewhat under the
day's best. The closing tone was firm,

vances in the local price, following
similar movement in some of the lend
ing mnrkets nf the country, have left
the trade her a trifle bewildered. In

While there is an overabundance
of white-meatcd salmon, real qunlity
stuff is not plentiful. Halibut is fairly
steady at 14c for medium and ll-12c
for chicken. A few sturgeon are ar
riving and moving lGc with, sea perch
around 8-Oc.
There continues an acute shortage
of fresh crabs here and prices are
reported firm to hiyhr. Sales are re
ported at J.50-3.50 dozen for the
medium aud lurge respectively.
Acute shortage of native oysters la
reported. A small BUpply from Wil
lapa bay is the only- arrival. This is
quoted strong at $S gallon.
Quite fair increase in the supply of
Dillard cantaloupes is reported.
Around 10O crates were received.

There was n acute shortage of
peaches on the East Side Farmers'
market during the Thursday sossion.
Only two small lots wore displayed.
Growers asked less than the usual
market for theso while they could
have obtained a small premium at
least. Snles mostly 00-65c.
Pickling cucumbers were In Increas
ed offering for the day with a fair
gain in demand. Sales No. 1 at 40c
box wilh 2s at SOc and 3s and 25-30c
while slicing held Jiiostly 20c.
Dill was in mflte fair supply and
good call around a dime a bunch.
Celery hearts were mostly $1.40 a
dozen bunches.
Cabbage was easier at f)0c-$l crate.
Peppera were slow and In liberal of
fering, mostly 40c box.
Ren! Hubbard squash was offering
