A Visitor j
Mr. John Drager has been vis
iting in Salem for a few days
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Hue Drager. Mr. Drager leaves
by plane today for San Francis
co and Shanghai. He is con
nected with the Texaco Oil com
pany. Mr. and Mrs. Drager have
been in New York this winter
and late fall. His wife, who is
now In Oklahoma City with her
parents, expects to join him In
Shanghai in a few months.
Polk County
Singers Meet
A mixed chorus has been or
ganized In Polk county by 43
persons wh turned out for the
first meeting Monday night t the
Itickreall school house. Raymond
Van Dyke will direct the group
and Claude Larkins of Rickreall
will act as chairman.
Singers were there from Inde
pendence, Monmouth, Terrydale,
West Salem, Dallas and Rickreall.

Meets for
Luncheon
The regular luncheon meeting
of the state board of the Uni
versity of Oregon mother was
held In Salem Tuewiay after
noon In the Marina room of tha
Marion hotel. Mrs., George H.
Swift was la charge of the ar
rangements. Tha tables were
decorated with bouquets of aca
cia, daffodils and pussywillows.

gene, state president, presided.
Mrs, George Swift, Salem, was
elected vice-president of the sec
ond district and Mrs. Walter
Kirk, Salem, was appointed fi
nancial chairman. Reports from
the district presidents were
given. The president announced
243 new members of the state
organization and that there are
600 more students; enrolled at
the university this term than la
the fall.

Marion Auxiliary No. 661. Vet
erans of Foreign Wars, met Mon
day night at the VFW hall with
Mrs. Virgil Bolton presiding.
Initiation was held for Mrs.
Marie Schafer. The officers and
color bearers will go to Wood
burn February 8 to assist with
the initiation.
Proceeds from the dance to be
held Wednesday, Jan. 30, will
be given to the March of Dimes.

the association In Chicago where
she supervised recreation and
clubs for the business girls for
six years. She la a graduate of
Adelphlj college and holds a
