county surveyor's office in Salem,
has received his discharge from

strike committee of the typograph
ical union? local (AFL) did not ap
pear today at a meeting called by
Mayor1 William T. Devin in a re
newed effort to settle the .wage
dispute which shut down Seattle's
three daily newspapers "Nov 18.
The mayor asked publishers and
committee members to confer in
his office. The strikers, asking a
daily wage boost of $2.95, yester
day turned down a, return-to-work
proposal from the publishers. The
mayors office said the offer was
for an increase of $2.25 for day
work and $2.50 fortnight work.
