Gamma Phi Beta alumnae will be leaving today for Victoria, B.C. to attend the biennial in
ternational convention at the Empress Hotel June 23-28. Salem alumnae have been making
favors and decorations for the convention, assisted by the Oregon State actives and Cor

Summer Social Calendar
Filled With Many Parties
For Brides-Elect, Visitors

Tba coming week will be filled with numerous parties, brides
elect and visitors sharing bonors. Invitations are in the mall this
weekend to a tea for which Mrs. G. Herbert Smith will ba hostess
on Friday, June 17 at her Falrmount Hill residence. The affair is
being arranged in compliment to two popular brides-elect. Miss An
toinette Kuzmanich, who will be married to Secretary of State Mark
0. Hatfield on July S, and Miss Sarah Van Fleet, who will become
the bride of Thomas B. Brand on July 12. Calling hours will be from
S to S o'clock with a group of the young married contingent bidden
to greet the guests of honor.
Coffee to Honor Miss Kasmanlca
Mrs. Ralph H. Cooley and her daughter, Mrs. John P. Maulding,
are entertaining with an informal coffee on Tuesday at the former's
North Summer Street home for the pleasure of Miss Kuzmanich. A
group of young matrons have been Invited to call between 10:30 and
t o'clock.

On Thursday Mrs. HarryBaughnufh Is entertaining at luncheon
at her Portland horn for Miss Kuzmanich and on June 28 Miss Shir
ley Fields will be a luncheon hostess for the bride-elect. Mrs. B. F.
Johnson of Portland will entertain with the rehearsal dinner on July
S and Dr. G. Herbert Smith will host the bachelor dinner for Mr.
Hatfield on July 3 at the University Club in Portland. Miss Kuzman
ich and her mother, Mrs. Vincent Kuzmanich, have planned the
bridesmaids' luncheon for July 2 at their home.
Tea to Fete Mrs. Melvin Lord
Invitations have come from Miss Elizabeth Lord and Miss Edith
Schryver to a tea for which tbey will be hostesses on Wednesday,
July t at their Mission Street residence. The tea will honor Mrs.
Melvin S. Lord of Washington. D.C., who Is arriving in the capital
the end of June for a summer's visit with her two eldest children,
Mary Elizabeth and John Montague. Mrs. Lord has a wide circle of
friends in the capital made on former visits and her husband will

Mrs. Meyer Hostess to Symphony AazUiary
Calendared for Thursday morning Is the Informal coffee to be
given by Mrs. Henry A. Meyer, chairman of the Women's Auxiliary
of the Salem Symphony Society, at her Pringle Road home. The oc
casion will mark the first anniversary of the auxiliary and members
have been Invited to call at 10:30 o'clock.
The coffee will also be an opportunity for auxiliary members to
meet the new president of the Symphony Society, Theodore deLooze.

Reception to Honor Brands
An informal reception Is being arranged for Justice and Mrs.
James T. Brand on Wednesday afternoon between four and six, at
the Supreme Court Building. Their host of friends are asked to call
to say good-bye to the Brands before their departure to Florida.
Professor Ralph Dobbs of the Willamette School of Music will
play at five o'clock. At 5:15 Chief Justice William Perry and Mayor
Robert White will say a few words.
Mrs. Frederick Sercombe and Ray Strlngham are being assisted
by staff members of the court in making arrangements for the event.

Rites
The wedding of Miss Esther
Long and Dr. Norman K. Tully of
Central Point, a former Salem resi
dent, was quietly solemnized on
Saturday morning at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Oathout at
Elliott Prairie. The couple ex-
changed vows at a garden cere
mony at 11:30 o'clock before mem
bers of the immediate family and
longtime friends.
For her wedding the bride sel
ected a rose-beige peau de soie
afternoon gown fashioned with
shawl collar and pleated skirt.
She wore a white hat and white
raccessories. She pinned a white
orchid to her gown.
Mrs. Russell Elmer was the hon
or matron and wore a mist blue
gown. Miss Margaret Lapschles
the bridesmaid, wore a rose-beige
gown. Their corsages were white
orchids.
Chester W. Oathout, longtime
family friend, served as best man

Tea Slated
Tuesday
Event of Tuesday afternoon will
be tea to be given in the interest
of the City of Hope, free, oonsec
tarian, national medical center in
Duarte, Calif., at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. David Holtzman on South
Liberty Street Mrs. Holtzman and
her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Adler,
will be co-hostesses for the affair
between 2 and 4 o'clock

cloche. Dr. Tully and his bride
have gone to Victoria and Van
couver, B.C., Banff, Lake Louise
and Jasper National Park on their
honeymoon. They will reside in
Central Point for the summer and
after September l will return to
Salem and will be at home at

VFW Auxiliary Meets
Marion Auxiliary 661. V.F.W.
will meet Monday evening, June
23 at the V.F.W. hall. As this is
social night, there will be a short
business Session followed by en
tertainment. Mrs. Ivell Haley is
chairman of the refreshment com
mittee. Mrs. Leon Hansen has
been named head delegate to the
state convention to be held at Red
mond June 24 to 27. Several other
auxiliary members are planning
to attend.

Several social events have been
planned by the Woman's Auxiliary
of the Oregon Pharmaceutical As
sociation, which is holdings its an
nual meeting in Salem June 22-24.
Calendared for Tuesday after
noon is the welcome tea to be
given at the Fairmount Hill home
of Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Quisenberry
at 3 o'clock. All pharmacists'
wives in Salem as well as those
attending the convention are in
vited to attend the tea.
Presiding at the tea urns will
be Mrs. Don McBain of Portland,
wife of the state president of. the
Oregon Pharmaceutical Associa
tion, and Mrs. George Crossen of
Corvallis, whose husband is head
of the School of Pharmacy at Ore
gon State College.
The committee arranging the tea
includes Mrs. P. D. Quisenberry,
Mrs. Dwight Quisenberry, . Mrs

and Mrs. John M. Graham.

women during the three-day con

attendant's except for Miss Ehle's
which was floor length. They all
