Robert White Home Scene Of Benefit Coffee for Rose Festival Float One of the social highlights of the coming week will be the benefit coffee to be given by the wives of the Salem Cherrians at the Candalaria home of Mayor and Mrs. Robert White on Tnursday between 1Q a.m. and 2 p.m. Proceeds from the event will augment the fund to purchase flowers for Salem's float in the annual Portland Rose Festival parade. Mayor and Mrs. White and the Cherrians are extending an invitation through the press to all Interested persona in the city and neighboring valley towns to attend the benefi affair. This will be one way in which citizens can contribute and help to enter the Salem float in the golden Rose Festival parade. Garden clubs throughout the area are arranging floral dis plays and decorations throughout the house. Mrs. William Healy is chairman of the coffee with Mrs. Ted Jenny the' co-chairman. Greet and Receive the Guests Greeting guests at the door will be Mrs. Alvin Bauer, Mrs. Austin Eivers, Mrs. Leonard Rowan and Mrs. Paul Stege. Re ceiving informally will be Mrs. Robert White, Mrs. Clyde Cook, wife of the King Bing of the Salem Cherrians; Mrs B. O. Schuck ing, first queen of Salem's Cherryland Festival; Miss Phyllis Jenks, Leslie Junior high student whose drawing won in the contest for the Salem float design, Mrs. W. W. Jenks, her mother; Mrs. Paul Robinson, Leslie art instructor, and Miss Margaret McDevitt, art supervisor for the Salem schools. Dyer Jr. Sports Dance For Wisteria Wisteria Club membera will close their dancing season with a sport dance Friday night, May 9, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Stubby Mills and his orchestra will play for dancing between 9 and 12 o'clock. Community Club Slates Meeting The Stayton Women's Commu nity Club will meet at the club house on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Mrs. C. L. A benefit covered dish lunch eon will be served at noon and proceeds will go toward establish ing a perpetual scholarship loan fund in memory of the late Elea nor Trindle, who was at one time a Marion County extension agent and later on the staff at Oregon State College. Orwlg and Mrs. Harold Adams. 1 Garden Club To Hear Kay Huntington Kay Huntington, who just recent ly returned from touring Europe, will be the guest speaker at the meeting of the Salem Garden Club on Monday at the Salem Woman's Clubhouse at 2 o clock. Mr. Hunt ington, who will head the garden show at the State Fair this year, will talk on European gardens and show pictures of gardens in Europe. Mrs. Kerby Johnson will report on the Third District garden club conference and Mrs. R. H. Vin cent will report on the garden council meeting. During the busi ness session new officers for the coming year will be elected. Mrs. M. M. Magee has served as club president during the past year. Frank Crawford, Merle Holman, Candidates Rally Set for May 13 The Salem Unit, Republican Women's Federation of Oregon has changed its regular meeting from May 12 to Tuesday, May 13. The occasion will be a candidates rally at the Senator Hotel at 8 p.m. with the Pettycoat Pollys as co-hosts. Mrs. Clark C. McCall, Mrs. Paul Van deVelde and Mrs. John Cochran comprise the committee in charge from the Salem Unit. The Pettycoat Pollys will arrange the decorations and reiresnments. The public is invited to attend and meet the candidates. Carol Hoffine Married to Donald Callahan Saturday Exchanging their vows at an 8 o'clock ceremony Saturday night at the Calvary Baptist Church were Miss Carol Rae Hoffine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence R. Hoffine, and Donald Albert Callahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon M. Callahan of Molalla. The Rev. Berkeley Ormond oerformed the rites. Miss Sedonia Burton and William Monroe sang and Glade Follis was the organist. Miss Jackie Fisher lighted the candles. Of nylon lace and tulle was the bridal gown, fashioned with a man darin collar and a bouffant skirt tiered with alternate ruffles of lace and tulle. Her elbow length veil was caught to a half hat encrusted with seed pearls and Iridescent se- aulns. She carried a wnite uiDie, a gift from the bridegroom's fa ther, which was topped with pink roses and a white orchid. Miss Janice Shrake, the honor maid, wore a nlle green taffeta and white lace sheath dress with white chiffon cummerbund and sash. She wore a matching crystal lette hat finished with a large bow and pink gloves. She carried' pink roses and white chrysanthemums. Bridesmaids were Miss veidta Haskell, Miss Beverly -Mocabee and Miss Arlene Heppner, who wore mint greet taffeta and white lace sheath dresses with white chiffon cummerbunds. They wore matching hats and pink gloves and carried pink chrysanthemums. Paula Jean Gilmer and Susan Turnbull, nieces of the bride, were flower, girls. Twin Brother is Best Maa Ronald Callahan served as best man for his twin brother. Ushers were Al Payne, Arnold Maxwell and Ronald Martinson. For her daughter's wedding Mrs Hoffine chose a mink brown lace gown with white hat and pink car nation corsage. Mrs. Callahan wore a navy blue crepe dress with white hat and corsage of pink carnations. A reception followed in the fire place room. Pouring were Mrs. Gary Lewis and Mrs. E. J. Payne. Cutting the cake were Mrs. Bever ly Gilmer and Mrs. J. S. Turnbull. Assisting were the Misses Dolores Dallas, Fairbelle Wattier, LeAnn Gilmer and Christine Ware. For her wedding trip to Reno and Las Vegas the new Mrs. Cal lahan donned an ice blue sheath dress with white duster and blue and white accessories.
