At Lewis and Clark May Queen Crowned Today By RAMONA SALMINEN Statu ma ii Correspondent PORTLAND - Highlighting the weekend is the reorganized May Fete, a weekend filled with festivi ties, concerts and fun for students and faculty. Today the queen and her court will be announced in the corona tion ceremonies above the reflec tion pool. Following the corona tion, the queen will make her hand print in cement at the Rose Gar- oen ceremony. , ueita Phi Gamma will present its annual water ballet at 3 p.m. Swimming to the music of "Car ousel" will be Mary Ellen Mc Cleary of Dallas and Karen Tay lor, MCMinnviue, both freshmen. After the ballet will be the style show featuring old-fashioned bath ing suits. Saturday evening, Ron Hubbs, Eilverton sophomore, and his date will dance to the music of Leroy Anderson and his orchestra at the formal queen's ball. The music department will pre sent a newly organized May music festival May 2 to 4, which will in clude individual concerts by the choir, Madrigal singers, symphonic band and the college orchestra. L. Stanley Glarum will conduct the choir, of which Joyce Nelson, Newberg, is a member, in the first concert of the festival at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2. Madrigal sing ers, directed by George Bishop, will continue the festival at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Symphonic band and the orches tra will round out the Sunday per formances. Lewis and Clark catalogues are ready for distribution in their new yellow and black covers. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. (Catherine M. Trueax of Pedee and Mr. Shelton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shelton of Dallas. The couple will live in Salem. (Kennell-Ellis Studio). Lebanon Dateline Mrs. Jerald Bartel The First Methodist Church was the setting for the wedding of Miss Bertha Ann Picha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde F. Picha of Salem, and Jerald Lee Bartel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zack Bartel of Independ ence, on April 27. Rev. Brooks H. Moore officiated at the 3 o'clock ceremony. Mrs. Gordon Beck of Newport sang and Prof. Josef Schnelker was the organist. - Of white lace over taffeta Was the bricjal gown, fashioned with a bouffant waltz skirt. - The bodice was made with long sleeves and a sabrina neckline. A crown of white seed pearls held in place her el bow length veil. She carried a purple orchid surrounded by lily-of-the-valley. Mrs. William Rowe of Salem was the matron of honor and Misses Leda Rowe of Salem and Sandra Bartel of Independence were the bridesmaids. They wore street length white sheath dresses with pastel overskirts of lavender, yellow and green lace. They car ried nosegays of stock and sweet peas and wore small headpieces with nose veils. Flower girl was Jacqueline Ruch of Salem, wearing a white dress with a lavender lace overskirt. Marvin Bartel was best man for the groom and the ushers included Leo Muller, and Leslie Peterson of Independence and Ken and Gary Beck of Newport. Candlelighters were Bobby and Johnnie Beck of Newport. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Picha' selected a pink lace dress with white accessories and a purple orchid corsage. Her maid of honor will be Karen Craig and the prin cesses will include Carol Edgman, Joanne. Kof oid, Sherry Gross, Nor ma Seiders and Sharon Christen sen. Coronation rites will be on the football field with next year's freshman as special guests. Date of the program and coronation is May 9. Mrs. Milton Coe of Salem will be the guest speaker Friday night at the annual mother and daughter dessert and program being ar ranged at the Firet Baptist church. Rev. and Mrs. Charles H. Reep are vacationing this week in Wash ington, Odell Lake and at Lone rock. Rev. Reep is pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church!
