daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 0. F.
. Sayles. and Robert Joseph Dryden,
son of Mr. and Mrs. David A.
Dryden of Wood burn, on Saturday
. morning.
The 9:30 o'clock nuptial mass
was performed by the Rev. Joseph
E. Vanderbeck. Miss Lorraine
Nelke and Leon Hampton sang
with Mrs. Raymond Barton the or
ganist. The altar was decorated
with bouquets of orchid gladiolus
es, white carnations and yellow
chrysanthemums.
The bride chose a floor length
gown of Chantilly lace over white
satin with chapel train. The bodice
was made with a scoop neckline
encircled with seed pearls. Her
nylon tulle veil was caught to a
seed pearl and jewel headdress.
She carried a white Bible marked
with white orchids and stephanotis.
Mrs. Max Sunderland was her
sister's honor attendant and she
wore a pastel green brocade waits
gown with matching picture hat
Mrs. Dale Schmidt and Miss .Bet-
tie Snook, the bridesmaids, wore
similar gowns, only of yellow.
They carried cascades of yellow
iris and vanda orchids.
Connie Sunderland, the bride's
niece, was flower girl and Joseph
Dryden, nephew of the groom, was
ring bearer. .

Victor Dryden stood with his
'brother as best man and ushers
included Clement Dryden, brother
of the groom, and Michael Weigel.
Groomsmen were Raymond Dry
den, a brother, and Ralph Smith.
Mrs. Sayles wore a pink silk
dress with navy accessories and
orchid corsage for her daughter's
marriage and Mrs. Dryden chose
a blue wool suit with brown ac
cessories and orchid corsage.
A reception followed at the
Knights of Columbus Hall. Miss
Martha Neuharth poured and Mrs.
Stanley Sayles, sister-in-law of the
bride, cut the cake. Assisting were
Mrs. Robert Lindsey, Mrs. Victor
Dryden, Mrs. Clement Dryden,
Miss Denise Sayles, sister of the
bride,. Mrs. Raymond Dryden,
Mrs. Kent Hailey, Miss Darlene
Velder, Mrs. Marvin Susse, Miss
Betty Hessel and Mrs. Ralph
Smith.
Alter a wedding trip to Reno and
Sail Francisco the couple will be
at home at 1765 E. Lincoln Road,
Woodburn. For traveling the new
Mrs. Dryden wore a white knit
suit with navy accessories.

the theme for the annual spring
convention of the Portland Group
Women's Missionary Federation,
ALC, on Tuesday, April 22 at
Hope Lutheran Church, Portland,

Dr. M. H. Scharlemann, profes
sor of New Testament, Concordia
Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., who
will speak on "The Book of the
People of God."

Mathews-Fern Nuptials,
To Live in North Carolina
Exchanging their vows at a 3 o'clock ceremony Saturday afternoon
at the Court Street Christian Church were Miss Marcia E. Fern,
daughter of Mrs. Mary Fern, and Laura nee R. Mathews, son Of Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Humphrey of Seattle. The Rev. W. Harold Lyman
performed the rites before a' setting of pastel spring flowers.
' Mrs. Louis Kurth was the vocalist and Mrs. David Hanson the
organist . Lighting the .candles
were Miss Loretta Bates and Miss
Janet Goodman.
Of white nylon lace over satin
was the bridal gown fashioned
with a V neckline, turned back
collar and long sleeves. The
floor length skirt of net was en
hanced with front and back
panels of lace terminating in a
sweep train. A tiara of pearls
held in place her fingertip tulle
veil. She carried a white Bible
marked with white roses. John
W. Lyles Jr. gave the bride in
marriage.
The Bride's Attendants
Mrs. John W. Lyles Jr. was the
honor matron and she wore a
mist pink mylar striped leno
gown with V neckline and full
skirt trimmed with a contrasting
cummerbund. The bridesmaid.
Miss Kathy Fern, wore a similar
gown, only of aqua mylar striped
leno. They carried old fashioned
nosegays bf pink carnations and
white snapdragons.
Yvonne Lyles and Karen Lyles
were the flower girls.
Roland McCormick served as
best man for Mr. Mathews and
ushers were Walter P. Volker,
Wilford Hinamon, Walter Fern
and Timothy Bartel.
Mrs. Fern wore a navy blue
lace gown with black accessories
for the wedding 'and the bride
grooms mother chose a grey suit
with black accessories. Their
corsages were white rosebuds.
Reception Follows
A reception followed in the
church parlor. Mrs. Walter Vol
ker and- Mrs. Wilford Hinamon
poured with Mrs. Walter Fern
and Miss Judy Hinamon cutting
the cake. Assisting were Mrs.
Charles Derthick, Mrs. Julius
Slattum, Miss Arlene Volker,
Miss Christy Fern and Miss' Dar
lene Goodman.
For her wedding triD to North
Carolina the new Mrs. Mathews
wore a pink knit suit with white
accessories. The newlyweds are
driving south and will visit
friends and relatives enroute.
They will live in Favetteville.
N.C., where the bridegroom is
stationed with the 82nd Airborne
Division at Fort Bragg.
St. Mary's Guild of St. Paul's
Episcopal, Church will be enter
tained Monday at the home of Mrs.
John H. Hann, 355 Hoyt St. SE.
at 1 p.m. Mrs. Peter Geiser and
Mrs. Reid Hanson will be the as
sisting hostesses.
Greetings will be extended by Dr.
C. Siefkes, president of the
Northwestern District of the ALC.
Ladies of St. Stephen church,
Gladstone, will give a vocal selec
tion. The business session will
include election of officers for the
next biennium. These will be in
stalled by Mrs. E. Harden at the
close of the session.

is president of the Portland
group and Mrs. Thomas Blair,

Camp Fire
Conference In Salem'
Near record attendance is Indi
cated for the forthcoming Region
Six Conference of Camp Fire
Girls. The conference opens with
registration Thursday evening,
April 17 and continues through
Saturday noon.
Nearly 500 adults, actively asso
ciated with Camp Fire activities
in Pregon, Washington, Idaho,
Montana and Alaska are expected
to attend the sessions which 'will
be held in the Marion Hotel and
the Salem Armory.
The Willamette Area Council
will host representatives from fifty-one
councils throughout the Pa
cific Northwest in an eventful, interest-packed
session.
Miss Janet Murray, regional
field executive for the Camp Fire
Girls, and Mrs. John Lewis, Wil
lamette Council executive, have
outlined a complete program that
will feature work sessions, discus
sion groups, banquets, entertain
ment, and special events.
All phases of adult participation
and support in the Camp Fire pro
gram will be discussed during the
two-day session. Reports from na
tional staff training programs will
highlight some of the meetings,
but most of the conference will be
devoted to "shirt sleeve" discus
sions and planning sessions with
the single aim: expansion and inv
