Willamette Will Welcome
Fifth Sorority, Alpha Phi
fifth sorority will come to the Willamette University campus
when Alpha Phi colonizes a group in the near future, Willamette pres
Ident G. Herbert Smith laid Thursday.

lace Brennan, Salem, a former national officer of the fraternity. Mrs.
Herbert Plumb, Seattle, who is chairman of the national membership

The new Alpha Phi chapter will
be housed in University House
next year. This Is the former resi
dence of the president located on
South Winter street.
President Smith said Thursday
that "the university board of trust
ees felt the need for a fifth house
on campus because of the erection
of Doney Hall (women's residence)
and the increase in the number of
women at Willamete."
Thursday the WUlamette Pan
heltenic group, an organization of
representatives of the four nation
al sororities -on campus, approved
and welcomed the new group.
The last sorority established at
Willamette was Chi Omega which
colonized a chapter here in 1945.
Delta Gamma preceded H the
tame year and Alpha Chi Omega
and Pi Beta Phi chapters were
organized in 1944.
Consenting to head the local Al
pha Chi Omega alumni advisory
board as chapter advisor is Miss
Antoinette Kuzrrmnich, present
dean of women at Portland State
College. Miss Kuzmanich plans to
marry Secretary of State Mark
0. Hatfield this summer and will
reside in Salem.
Alpha Phi international fratern
ity was founded at Syracuse Uni
versity in 1872 and now consists
of 59 active chapters. Early in
February a new. chapter was in
stalled at the University of Wich
ita. On the fraternity agenda are
spring installations at Drake,
Pennsylvania and Arizona State.
In the Northwest there are chap
ters at the University of Oregon.

State College, Whitman College,
University of Montana, College of
Puget Sound, University of Ida
